I’ve been to Rupp for several games…been at the lower level and the uppers, and was told to “sit down” so some old bitty could see rather than getting up off her duff and cheering loudly for our boys. Upper level is a different deal, people scream, yell, and IMO that’s where the loudness comes from when Rupp gets loud. It’s not from the blue hairs around the floor.

Fog Allen seats 16,000 and Cameron seats fewer than 10,000…can you image taking seven or eight thousand or more tickets away from UK fans…you’d have riots and chaos in the streets. Rupp Arena (as hard as it is to say) is a generic arena outside of it’s capacity…the new arena must seat 23,000 plus so we can keep winning the attendance battle every year.

  65. Vermont
    10:56 am August 10, 2011 Permalink

Rupp blue hairs create a country club atmosphere. You can build a new arena, but that country club atmosphere will follow because the people with the big $$$ don’t cheer. And the people with the big money will always get the best seats. Some might move to luxury boxes, but there will be enough in lower arena to stifle the atmosphere. So many of the real fans can’t get into the building as it is, so when they lose seats in a new arena, it won’t be the quiet rich people who are kept out.

  66. Joseph from Paintsville
    10:59 am August 10, 2011 Permalink

Yum Center capacity is 22,000 plus…if Rupp seats fewer than 24,000 why would we have to lose seats…especially if the new arena would be on par with the Bucket.

I’d love to see UK take two games a year–maybe one SEC game and one non-conference major opponent–and open up the ticket sales as first come first served. Imagine an ESPN-game day game with open ticket sales! Real fans in the lower level would show the contrast between the status quo and what could be. They will never do that, but I’d love to see it.
