I am very excited tonight to announce the welcome addition of four new bloggers to the KSR ranks. As those of you who have been reading over the last weeks have surely noticed, my departure from full-time writing on the site has put a heavy load on Beisner and has caused him to post in record numbers. While he is helped with skill by our returning group of Drew Franklin, Will Lentz, BTI, Hunter Campbell and Tyler Thompson, it is time to add new folks to our rotation as the frequency of posts increase and KSR deals with its record traffic. With that in mind, it is time to introduce three new (and one old) writer to the site, all of whom will be contributing regularly beginning on Thursday:
Matthew Hays: Matthew comes to us from the Blogger contest (as do the other two new writers) and is going to add a little journalistic heft to the site. Matthew is a student at Northwestern University, where he is studying journalism. He is originally from Kentucky and is a lifelong Cats fan, who did a great job throughout the contest. He says he is an improv comedy group called the “Titanic Players”, but he probably wishes he hadnt told us that because we will make fun of it for some time to come. Matthew will be doing regular posts but also focusing on some bigger journalistic endeavors for us. For a long time, I have wanted to have a KSR investigative writer, who would look into larger issues around UK sports and follow the national stories in ways we havent had time to do. Matthew is that guy and I look forward to seeing him get started. He is the first generation of KSR writers to tell me “I started reading you in high school.” We are old.
Chris Thomas: Thomas was the favorite of the comedy part of the blog staff during his time in the Blogger Contest and join us after a stellar career in the comment section of the site and live blogs. Chris is a law student at Chase in Northern Kentucky (once the stomping grounds of Dustin Rumbaugh) and grew up a Cats fan in Louisville. He claims to have Eastern Kentucky roots, but I think it was just to get on my good side. He has a sharp wit and says he found KSR when Tubby left for Minnesota. He says he wants to write a screenplay for a movie, meaning like Chris Tomlin, I expect him to break off at a later date and start his own site, hijacking Evan Hilbert yet again.
Nathan Gower: Nathan is an Assistant Professor of English at Campbellsville University, which means he is already (a) the best writer on the staff and (b) tired of all the grammatical mistakes in our posts and the logical mistakes in all editions of BTI’s work. Nathan grew up in Henderson, Kentucky and has had his work published in a number of journals and other fancy “big word” type environments. He is joining the site to add a little intellectual heft and to become the other mysterious writer that no one knows, joining the cyborg known as Hunter Campbell.
And returning once again Evan Hilbert: You may remember Evan as the guy who joined the site with Beisner a couple of years ago and then disappeared into the woodwork of grad school in Indiana. Well since then, Evan has found a niche writing about sports books and some of his work is published on AOL Fanhouse. Evan is rejoining the site with a new vigor and will pick up right where he left off before, by making fun of Beisner.
All four of these new writers are going to do great work here and each bring something different to the table. Please make them welcome to the KSR family and give them a break by not telling them that they suck for at least a couple of weeks. New writers are the lifeblood of the site and in every case (except for that time that Maggard wrote here), they become part of the family forever. Welcome them and keep the KSR train going….
