Watch The NIT Selection Show at 9 on ESPNU

I know we’re all hurt, but this season technically isn’t over yet. The NIT Selection Show is on ESPNU tonight at 9pm, and will let us know what small-major school will be hosting college-basketball’s all-time winningest team in the next week. As disappointed as we all are in the results of this year, this is still a young team that has work left to do before their season is over. Bring it on, Charleston.

What will a blow out road loss in the nit accomplish?

We will likely be a high seed in the NIT. Doesn’t that mean we get to host the game? When will tickets to Memorial be available?

If this is all the news you have to post-go back to sleep. Please no more rah rah about this team-not worth the words spent.

Just let this season end without another loss. This team sucks.

I say sit Harrow, Goodwin, and Poythress throughout the NIT to show the it takes more than talent to earn a spot. These three did not give a consistent effort all year.

#4..some people were spreading a false rumor that a school can’t host the NCAA Tourney AND NIT games. There is no such rule. The Cats will be in Lexington, even if it means playing in Memorial like 2009.

What’s this about not being able to host an NIT game as a 1 seed?

  14. blueblue

Yes, we will be a high seed. But, Rupp is already hosting some NCAA 2nd/3rd round games. Rupp is unavailable and so is the staff necessary to host any game. So hosting at Memorial is also not logistically possible.

Interesting time to be Kentucky basketball fan. The last three years have been one of the best runs in Kentucky’s history- with an Elite 8, Final Four, and a National Championship. At the same time, this is our second NIT invite in the last five years. That hasn’t happened since 1976/1979. (Not counting the 1940’s when the NIT was thought of as the better tournament.

Can’t ever be down on the Cats- but it certainly ruins March around here…

Only way this team gets any respect is to win the thing. They can do it if they care enough.

UK declined to host because of Rupp hosting NCAA and construction around Memorial (is there construction, that’s what I heard.) it isn’t logistically possible this year.

    17. NCAA owns the NIT. We don’t want to ruin our seeding next year.

    18. There is construction by Memorial. They took where Wildcat Lodge was and the parking lot below it and are building new dorms. We are a1 seed in the NIT.

If I was the power conference teams, I would decline the invitation ….really can’t see playing to benefit the corrupt NCAA…or accept, then withdrawal at last minute!

Robert Morris., capacity ~3000 for their gym. NCAAs aren’t being played on Tuesday, wonder why we can’t play at RUPP.

Should have declined the bid. Have to go on road and play in a high school gym, basically.

Our team grossly underachieved without are point “being right”,Noel and a couple of more recruits(muhammed and Bennett). We are the gold standard of basketball and nit wins count for our all time total. Everything in life is not perfect but live under the guise of movin forward which happens ro be great!

    21. Thanks. I graduated UK last year so I couldn’t verify, not being in Lexington anymore. I’m guessing UK doesn’t want to deal with it. In 2009 they had time to work out staffing issues, but not this year. Plus construction makes events difficult. I know we are a 1 seed, but the hassle might be greater than the reward.

What a crappy 48 hours this has been.

UK should accept a bid from the NIT so the guys who will be back next season can get some more post-season tournament experience. One game, a 16 point loss at that, is not enough.

    This sucks. I’m done.

Why accept an NIT bid? NIT shouldn t even exist. It s a tourney for bad teams. Whats the purpose? Call it a year and roll into off-season conditioning and individual fundamentals. All these guys need serious fundamentals work.

ONE MORE GAME!This team is done.Accept the NIT bid and get force fed more humble pie. That is what they need. We are not God’s gift to anything and are not above the NIT. That is exactly what this years team is – NIT caliber.
Grow up and deal with it.

Be interested to see if the NBA is dumb enough to draft any of these guys. Every one of them needs to come back.
They have accomplished absolutely nothing – ZIP – NADA. Yes Willie and Nerlens might pan out way down the road but it’s reality check time.

Get rid of the undeserved hype, the BS of guys wearing National Champion shirts when they had nothing to do with last year, the BS of that ridiculous ESPN un-reality hype show, on and on ad nauseum.

Time to eat humble pie, eat crow,be humble, gain some humility, THEN get mad, get pissed, get hungry,go work hard, and go devour every one who stands in the way next year.
