Everyone At All Of The Tour Stops Wants Afternoon Notes and Podcast

You’re looking at just a part of the crowd that showed up in Frankfort to get a glimpse of the trophy on its tour through Kentucky. It’s great to see so many people from all over getting to join in on the celebration, and not just the ones who made the trip to New Orleans or Lexington. Calipari has done a great job of sharing the love throughout the Bluegrass.

— In Midway, KY, where school was let out for the tour, the mayor pronounced it Kentucky Wildcat Day in the town. That’s not quite as inviting as a Shoney’s remodel, but it’s pretty darn close.

— Word from the tour is the crowd in Elizabethtown is insane and an absolute zoo right now. I’m told it’s the best turnout from the trip and they’re going crazy for a look at the trophy. We’ll have photos up shortly.

“I’ll be taking my talents, for college, to the University of…”

Still hasn’t gotten old yet.

— UConn’s Andre Drummond surprised no one when he announced that he’s entering the NBA Draft this summer. That was followed up by news that fellow freshman center Michael Bradley received his release and will transfer. Throw in Oriakhi’s departure and UConn is struggling to fill the paint next season. If you’ve ever want to be a big man in the Big East, now is your chance.

— Florida’s Bradley Beal will also declare for the NBA Draft. Billy Donovan can’t win with one-and-dones.

— Earlier I wrote about Shabazz’s father denying any influence from Adidas in the UCLA decision and I’d like to clarify my point of the post: I’m not bitter that Shabazz picked UCLA or surprised that a shoe affected a kid’s decision, that happens everywhere. I just don’t want to hear Ron Holmes acting like Adidas didn’t matter. We get it. It’s cool. It’s been done here. Just hush because you’re not fooling anyone. That said, best of luck to Shabazz out west; he’s going to be a star from day one.

Adam Lefkoe and Perrin Johnson filled in for Matt Jones on this morning’s radio show. Take a listen to Lefkoe’s KSR hosting debut…

Today’s show was the best one to date in my opinion. I don’t understand the hate. There was a lot of talk about UK football which is my favorite UK sport. It’s nice not having to hear about basketball during baseball season.

I live in my mom’s basement. I am back at work today so I can be a Louisville fan posting on a UK website. I am such a loser!

Bennet would always have had a scholarship had he decided to go to Florida. Not a great system, but the way it works.

Looks like Noel basically convinced his mom to let him come to UK over Georgetown. Good on him for going after his own dream, just like when Terrence eventually realized he wasn’t going to go to Washington for himself, but for other people.

It’s pictures like this that completely validate Cal’s claim that UK is the state’s team. No other team in KY would draw crowds like this all over the state.

That picture doesn’t do justice. Easily 3-5 thousand folks in Frankfort. I was there and took a ton of photos including a pudgy Matt Jones stepping off the train.

I mentioned this earlier but the fact Cal understands what UK means to regular people and then, goes out and meets / greets them is beyond…”getting it”.

It is truly amazing. Love it.
