If you think you’re having a bad day, imagine being Kevin Stallings. Not only is the West End Taco Bell out of Cool Ranch Locos Tacos, buttwo of Vandy’s top returning players are no longer on the team. Jeff Lockridge of the Tennessean is reporting that starting wing Kevin Bright has signed a pro contract with a German team AND junior point guard Kedren Johnson is no longer on the team or enrolled in school.
Johnson was Vandy’s leading scorer last year, averaging 13.5 points and 3.6 assists. He had surgery on his shoulder during the offseason, but was expected to make a full recovery in time for this season. Johnson spoke to Lockridge, and said that the matter was related to “student conduct,” and referred to the situation as a “suspension,” implying that the situation may only be temporary.
Bright traveled to his home country of Germany last week to be with his ailing mother, and while there, explored his opportunities with the Fraport Skyliners, who are based in Frankfurt. He agreed to a two year deal, which means his collegiate career is over. In his freshman year at Vandy, Bright averaged 6.9 points and led the team with 5.5 rebounds per game.
Don’t worry, Kevin. There are eleven Taco Bell locations in Nashville to get you through this.
UPDATE: Vanderbilt just announced that Kedren Johnson has been been suspended for the entire 2013-2014 season. He also won’t be enrolled in school, but will have the option to return for the 2014-205 season.
The SEC just got a little easier.
