Sure, there might be some other international sporting event taking over the television on this fine Sunday afternoon, but it’s a little basketball tournament in Hamburg, Germany (not Pavilion) that should has the attention of John Calipari (and apparently Bruce Pearl, Billy Donovan and John Pelphrey) and, should have yours too. After crushing Canada last night, the United States will attack Poland this afternoon in the FIBA U17 World Championships final. While international domination is all fine and good, the hopes of Kentucky fans are that Michael Gilchrist and Marquis Teague are taking the lead from certain unnamed superstars and making plans for a few of their Team USA teammates to join them in a year.
In the immediate future, though, your country needs you. An early morning international nerdfight of fairly large proportions has broken out below the USA roster on the FIBA site and words lik “Afghanistan” and “oil spill” are being tossed around. My Bluegrass brothers and sisters, America needs you.
And, after you’re done defending America, stop back over and take a look at the only thing that can bring us all together – YouTube highlight videos. Behold Gilchrist throwing it down in traffic at the 2:00 mark and Marquis Teague tossing a one-handed oop at 2:50.
