The Cardinals are coming, friends. The Cardinals are coming. Brace yourselves for an influx of filth around Commonwealth Stadium Saturday morning when the Louisville fan base arrives, DJ equipment in tow. Take pictures of them if you desire, but do not, DO NOT, get close enough to feed them. I can assure you they’ll pack enough Black ‘n Milds and malt liquor to last them the entire afternoon. They’ll be fine.
So how about some afternoon notes to hold us over for a little while?
— We’ll lead off with basketball recruiting news, where Myles Turner has a scholarship offer to play basketball at the University of Kentucky. Calipari visited the second-ranked big man in his Texas home Wednesday night and the Turner family was impressed, according to Myles’ high school coach. Trinity High head basketball coach Mark Villines told The Herald-Leader, “I mean, it’s Kentucky basketball, but he really pitched it to Myles. He didn’t sugarcoat anything – was very honest. When he walked away, the initial vibe was they were very impressed.”
The next move for Coach Cal and Kentucky is to get Turner on campus, preferably for Big Blue Madness in October. He currently has one official visit scheduled, at Kansas on October 4, but he plans to take several in the near future. Turner will wait until spring to make his decision.
— 2014 point guard Tyler Ulis will announce his decision tomorrow night and it’ll be shocker if he chooses anywhere but Kentucky. USA Today’s Jason Jordan is one of several recruiting guys who predict the Wildcats for Ulis; he told KSR, “(Ulis is) definitely going to be at Kentucky.”
“Tyler’s a winner, he’s a player,” Jordan said of the undersized point guard. “Bottom line: He’ll produce.” Jordan went on to say Ulis is like a quarterback and he thinks the game two or three plays ahead. “He’s just really smart,” he added. “He makes the right play on every possession.”
Come on down.
— UK is still encouraging fans to wear blue to Saturday’s game, so make sure you do that. I know that new Dri-Fit Nike UK polo you bought looks good on you and it’s comfortable, but it’s also white. Save it for another day. Wear blue!
— Julius Randle was named Second Team Preseason All-American by The Sporting News. Andrew Harrison received third team honors.
— For you music fans, those Sundy Best boys are back with a new music video and it breaks halfway through for a C-A-T-S! CATS! CATS! CATS! chant.
— And in radio news, Matt Jones went on a rant unlike anything we’ve ever heard this morning on Kentucky Sports Radio radio. He listed the ten reasons why he hates Louisville, and I’m pretty sure he blacked out while doing it. Have a listen on today’s podcast at TalkRadio1080.com.
