Louisville Fan of the Day Wants Afternoon Notes and Today’s Podcast

uofl-fan

The Cardinals are coming, friends. The Cardinals are coming. Brace yourselves for an influx of filth around Commonwealth Stadium Saturday morning when the Louisville fan base arrives, DJ equipment in tow. Take pictures of them if you desire, but do not, DO NOT, get close enough to feed them. I can assure you they’ll pack enough Black ‘n Milds and malt liquor to last them the entire afternoon. They’ll be fine.

So how about some afternoon notes to hold us over for a little while?

— We’ll lead off with basketball recruiting news, where Myles Turner has a scholarship offer to play basketball at the University of Kentucky. Calipari visited the second-ranked big man in his Texas home Wednesday night and the Turner family was impressed, according to Myles’ high school coach. Trinity High head basketball coach Mark Villines told The Herald-Leader, “I mean, it’s Kentucky basketball, but he really pitched it to Myles. He didn’t sugarcoat anything – was very honest. When he walked away, the initial vibe was they were very impressed.”

The next move for Coach Cal and Kentucky is to get Turner on campus, preferably for Big Blue Madness in October. He currently has one official visit scheduled, at Kansas on October 4, but he plans to take several in the near future. Turner will wait until spring to make his decision.

— 2014 point guard Tyler Ulis will announce his decision tomorrow night and it’ll be shocker if he chooses anywhere but Kentucky. USA Today’s Jason Jordan is one of several recruiting guys who predict the Wildcats for Ulis; he told KSR, “(Ulis is) definitely going to be at Kentucky.

“Tyler’s a winner, he’s a player,” Jordan said of the undersized point guard. “Bottom line: He’ll produce.”  Jordan went on to say Ulis is like a quarterback and he thinks the game two or three plays ahead. “He’s just really smart,” he added. “He makes the right play on every possession.”

Come on down.

— UK is still encouraging fans to wear blue to Saturday’s game, so make sure you do that. I know that new Dri-Fit Nike UK polo you bought looks good on you and it’s comfortable, but it’s also white. Save it for another day. Wear blue!

— Julius Randle was named Second Team Preseason All-American by The Sporting News. Andrew Harrison received third team honors.

— For you music fans, those Sundy Best boys are back with a new music video and it breaks halfway through for a C-A-T-S! CATS! CATS! CATS! chant.

#DoWhat

— And in radio news, Matt Jones went on a rant unlike anything we’ve ever heard this morning on Kentucky Sports Radio radio. He listed the ten reasons why he hates Louisville, and I’m pretty sure he blacked out while doing it. Have a listen on today’s podcast at TalkRadio1080.com.

Go Cats.

I think the main reason he hates Louisville is because they beat his Dukies for a trip to the final four this year.

“Lexington is for the birds” has to be the lamest sports slogan of all time. Most people at least attempt to come up with a slogan that has a kernel of truth to it. Lexington is no more “for the birds than Augusta National is “for the ladies.”

The sad part to that picture is that the boy thinks he is cool. I’m not degrading the louisville aspect so much as I am society in general. It would still be sad if he were covered in blue. Just depressing to think that people like this are considered the future of the country.

    @ matt

Who said I was mad? When I think of the “Scurge of the Commonwealth” I think of what you refer to as lewisville. No ill feelings, just how I feel. Why are you calling me a little boy? Sounds as if I have struck a nerve in your ill-faded attempts at humor. And with the portraits, do you really want to get involved with demoralizing people. I pointed out I feel sorry for the guy in the top picture, I didn’t make fun of him. You on the other hand, you seem to fill the classic qualities of a jerk. I feel sad for you. Hopefully your inadequacies as a human being can be dealt with on a personal level instead of always trying to degrade others for pleasure.

HEY FOLKS, MATT FINDS MEANING FOR EXISTENCE IN MAKING FUN OF INNOCENT PEOPLE ON A RIVAL TEAMS BLOG.

The last question I have for you is why are you here? The fact that you visit an opposing teams blog is sad enough. The fact that you look for a meaning in your life by trying to draw ill-will from others is very depressing to all mankind. Hopefully whatever your problem is will be rectified.

BBN KEEPS YOU IN THEIR PRAYERS FOR RECOVERY MATT. HOPE YOU GET BETTER.

For the ones who keep chirping about racism in this post: Drew is talking about Louisville fans black, white, and brown. 52 cards out there and UofL fans always choose the same one… typical of an entire fanbase with more issues than Playboy but always start with someone’s missing teeth. The picture of the wannabe pretty much sums it up folks, they have no identity so they must steal someone else’s.

Matt’s take on the evolution of UL fans over the last 30 years is worth a listen. The rest of Matt’s list is fun, but the loss of the blue collar, diverse, and invested fan base in Louisville is just sad. Could it be said that UK claims the old UL fan base now — thinking, Cal vs Pitino, JayZ vs BigBlack, etc?

I honestly do not understand the number of people who are conceding this game to UofL. I do not agree. I don’t believe this group of Cards has seen the tempo from an offense that they will see from Neal Brown and co. on Saturday. Then we have the simple fact that Louisville is just plain over-hyped. I like Bridgewater as much as the next person but he is the same guy who lost to Syracuse and UConn. His team won a grand total of 3 games by more than 10 points last season. And please, stop putting so much emphasis on the Florida game. We see irrational results every year in bowl games. Remember Utah spanking Bama a few years ago? I firmly believe it would have been a much different game had they played in October.

Keep the faith, BBN. This is NOT Alabama or LSU we are playing here.

@34 – Schools like Duke pretty much give out exclusively need-based scholarships. Getting a scholarship to Duke or anywhere else is no more impressive than getting into Duke is by itself–all it means is that you couldn’t afford to pay your way.

Not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. It’s just that the fact that you don’t seem to know that makes me pretty damn suspicious that you actually got into Duke (or even applied).

By the way, your list of UK, KU, tOSU and Duke is pretty much an invitation to play “which one of these are not like the other.” The latter three have pretty good to excellent reputations as research institutions. The first, however, is not by any stretch of the imagination known for being a good school. It, like UofL, is a little-respected school where you can get a great education if you do your homework and use a little critical thinking: two activities that, as evidenced by your post, don’t seem to be your strong points.
