University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Unnamed sources are always reliable and sometimes know stuff recruiting guru Jerry Meyer is hearing from his unnammed but reliable sources that Shabazz Muhammad will pick UCLA when he announces on April 11:

If you believe Jerry Meyer and his reliable sources, it’s not a good piece of new for Kentucky fans.

I still think he’s going to Kentucky and my unnamed, reliable sources told me so.

That would score high on the suck-o-meter. In addition, Nerlens Noel was asking on Twitter if anyone knew for certain whether or not Fab Melo had declared for the draft yet…this was on the same day UK won the NC.

I say that if he doesn’t like winning, doesn’t care about playing in the NCAA tournament, and doesn’t want to become a better, more unselfish player, he should definitely go to UCLA. Otherwise, it seems like UK would be a no-brainer for someone in his position.

We’ll see. If Bazz is being truthful and style of play is the factor, then Bazz to UK. Howland makes Tubby’s offense look “fast break”. If Bazz would rather be near home for his 8 months on campus, then ucla is the choice. Decision is yours Bazz.

If he goes there, it’s because he a) Wants to be a program saver, b) has a friend or 2 there, c) wants to live in LA.

If he comes here, it’s because he wants to play for a better program and coach, have a chance at winning the title, be on national TV every game, be prepared by his coach and fanbase to be a pro, get drafted as high as possible, have more fun.

Is shabazz wants to be on a mediocre team pulling all the weight scoring 30 points in a loss then let him… The comparison of UCLA to UK is non existent… If shabazz is looking to be swept under the west coast rug where no one cares about basketball at a second rate program with a second rate staff and second rate facilities then that’s his loss… We don’t have to have shabazz to win #9 next year… I’m sure shabazz and Noel are trying to build suspense for their announcement so they try to throw a wrench in the wheel with these stupid comments

Lets just be honest with ourselves here, Shabazz is going to be a star where ever he goes next season, having him at UK would be great but we need him more then he needs us. Hes also from the West, so maybe staying at home is a big deal to him. Also UCLA is sponsored by that shoe company that his “handlers” have ties with.

Read DeCourcy and you will see the quote from Cal about not leaving Memphis while his daughters were in high school. He has a son with 3 years left at LCA. He isn’t leaving before 2015 barring health issues. And as long as he is coaching, don’t doubt his recruiting… UCLA has a basketball team??

Question is: If Bazz=UCLA and Noel=Cuse, then who’s next in line? I hear we are still in the running for Bennett. As it now stands (assuming we lose 6 players this year), we barely have enough to put on the court next year.

I would rather have Noel and Bennett and not get Bazz. Honestly, I’ve watched quite a bit of tape, he won’t be driving and pounding on little white boys in college, and he doesn’t have much of a long range jumper. We would probably be better with Teague and Lamb back and Noel and Bennett coming in with the other guys, plus all the baggage Bazz brings, might not be worth it. By the way, he does need us more than we need him, reality!

For those who may have forgotten the stattment that Cal made last month, UK IS the best job at any level. And I’m pretty sure he wasn’t talking about high school and Jr. High! I’ll stand by what Cal said until it’s fact!

On the other hand I agree with most of you, if Bazz wants to stay on the less coast, so be it. We’ll be fine on whoever Cal gets.

Read a lot about Shabazz and all signs do point to him going to UCLA but then again there is this: In a nationally televised pregame interview, Muhammad said three colleges are still in play for his services: UCLA, Kentucky and Duke, in no particular order. At the news conference following the game, Muhammad said it would be special to join Archie Goodwin of Sylvan Hills (Little Rock, Ark.) and Alex Poythress of Northeast (Clarksville, Tenn.) at Kentucky if he were to choose the Wildcats. Those were the two players seated next to him at the podium.

“If I went to Kentucky,” Muhammad said, “that can be a really good class.”

I’ve always felt that we would get Noels and Shabazz would go to UCLA. As long as Cal is here I feel like it still happens that way. I don’t really see Cal leaving, don’t blame him if he let’s the Knicks court him. It’s always nice to get a little love and keep the door open in case you ever do need to go to the NBA.

So long as we can land Nerlens and/or Bennett next year will be fine. Devonta Pollard is an excellent recruit and would serve us well if Shabazz stays on the West Coast.

The BBN needs to stop speculating and feeding this rumor of Cal to the Knicks. It only causes problems and makes recruits doubt coming to UK.

Of course Cal will listen to the Knicks offer, anyone with business sense would. However, at the end of the day he will stay at UK and cement his legacy as one of the greats. Listen to his previous remarks. He said he likes helping mold kids into better players and people. He is about service to his players and getting them to reach their dreams.

Shabazz to UCLA to be close to home??? It’s a 4 1/2 drive from Vegas to Los Angeles… 4 1/2 hours.
I can see the thought of being closer… if it were 1-2 hours. 4 1/2 hours is a DAY (there and back).. 9 hours of travel… 2 hours at the arena (early).. That’s an 11 hour day…oh, forgot…there’s a 40 minute (2 hour) game in there as well — 13 hours total. UCLA home game visits for friends and family will be overnight stays. How often will that happen… on weeknights?
They CLAIM of closer to home doesn’t make sense.
Sure, the family/friends can hop in the car and make a trip much easier on a 9 hour (there and back) visit…than Lexington. It may be closer, but it ain’t just down the road.
Bazz will decide the BEST fit for him. This kid is a ‘performing artist’ that loves the spotlight. I hate to say it, but there are some similarities with him and Rivers. Both love the big stage, and the light on them. Bazz seems like a more team oriented talent…that would FIT better with Cal… But, if we have learned anything from this season…personal/individualized performance is tossed out for the TEAM concept. Cal has made it clear that this program is NOT for everyone…and maybe Howland is making it clear that Bazz can BE THE MAN…whereas Cal is saying…you can be part of the TEAM.
It all depends on what Bazz really wants…and may have nothing to do with being close to home, etc…
It may all be what FITS Bazz and his desires the best. Bazz will NEVER come out and say, I want to be the I in Team. But it MAY be what he truly desires.
    We shall see.

According to a LA Times newspaper article today, UCLA has to get Shabazz. Their program and coach depend on it. With that said, desperate measures turn into desperate actions. If Shabazz picks ULCA over UK then it will be because they have promised him money. And a desperate coach doesn’t care. If he picks UCLA, they should immediately be investigated, because you can bet the boosters are behind it. There is no logical reason he would want to play for Ben Howland.

My sources tell me that Ralph Nadar is guaranteed president for the 2012-2016 term.

Lol but seriously, I’ve heard so many things for each player. Shabazz is going to be top 3 in the NBA draft no matter where he goes, and any team that gets Noels will be top 5. Will either team do well in the tournament? Probably not, but that’s their choice.

And I’d take MKG over Shabazz any day. Yeah Shabazz is a polished player who can shoot, drive, and dunk well, but no one in the game brings what MKG does to the table. Motivates teammates + undeniable will to win + lock-down defense + best transition finisher in the game >>> solid shot + polished ball handling + full of himself (I say that based on his whole recruiting process, asks for way too much attention)

58 You are on to something there. Howland’s style of play doesn’t fit his game & I know Anderson is a great talent but his game isn’t based on speed. No matter what’s goin down his future will be brighter if he comes to Lexington. He’s tailor made for Cal’s offense. We shall see.
