Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

What did you do this afternoon?

Have you purchased your gigantic, green plastic glasses yet? They’re the new thing. Wall wore those through the entire game.

That’s not all that was going on, though. Let’s talk about a fun-filled Saturday afternoon in Lexington.

Rupp Arena was insane.

I wish every single one of you could’ve been there to witness it. UK somehow managed to find the 24,398 loudest people on the planet and crammed them into Rupp Arena. The crowd was electric from the opening tip until the last note in “My Old Kentucky Home” and I can still feel the intensity as I write this.

Luxury boxes bring revenue but nothing is more valuable to a program than the way Big Blue Nation brought the noise today. Give yourself a round of applause — if you have any applause left in you.

This one brought the celebrities out.

John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady, Rasheed Wallace, Josh Hopkins, and Speaker of the House John Boehner were in attendance.

Rupp Arena’s own Speaker of the House was in the crowd too. I’m talking about the lovely Ashley Judd.

This one brought the media celebrities out, too.

I saw Mike DeCourcy, Jeff Goodman, Chad Ford, Seth Davis, Chip Cosby, and some guy with a mustache that would make Alan Cutler cry. That thing was beautiful. I sat beside him at the St. John’s game and I was tempted to ask him if he wanted to trade a mustache hair for an eyebrow hair like soccer players do with their jerseys after games. I was too intimidated to ask, though.

The hamburgers in the media room were left over from the Marist game.

Only the best when the stars come to town.

I won’t even talk about the potato salad.

Hey, Dikembe. Did you see John Henson’s jumper at the end of the game?

Not in Anthony Davis’ house.

The crowd brought the boos to Rupp Arena.

No, not like Billy Gillispie brought the booze to Rupp Arena. I mean the crowd wasn’t particularly satisfied with some of the calls. I’m not usually one to complain about officiating but this crew missed a couple and that’s putting it nicely. I didn’t have a good angle on some of them but there were plenty of bad calls that were blatantly obvious.

Tony Greene hates us.

Roy Williams said “dog-gone” in the press conference.

It won me ten bucks. He also hit us with this:

Jerry Tipton: “Roy, forgive me if you have already addressed this…”

Coach Williams: “Jerry, I’ve been forgiving you for 25 years. Just like everyone else in here.”

Well played.

I like Doron Lamb at the point.

If a guy has to sit at crunch time, I’d rather it be Marquis Teague than Kidd-Gilchrist, Miller, or Lamb. Those three have to be on the floor when it matters the most.

Teague’s missed free throw on the one-and-one could’ve been a killer. After the game, Coach Cal said he made Teague stand up and hug Anthony Davis in the locker room.

Can I get a hug, too? I want to hug him. We all do.

How did Anthony Davis block that shot?

Absolute beast.

Best back-to-back Saturdays ever?

Kentucky better be unanimous No. 1 team in the country on Monday.

Don’t give me that Ohio State beat Duke by 18 crap.

North Carolina played a great game, shot 61% from three-point land, had a five-point lead at the half, and Kentucky got the W.

All they do is win, win, win no matter what.

You’re next.

How about when Zeller acted like he got hit with a Drago punch, and fell. Louisville will do that kind of flopping 10 times minimum on Dec. 31st. Great officiating! Unreal game.

Who did Roy Williams blame this loss on? Couldn’t have been the Ram’s Club. I’m guessing he blamed it on all the NBA Scouts in attendance.

Played against Twanny several times during the summer when he was at Ballard. I am 34 years old and held my own. Twanny is a Murry State type player. He won’t play valuable minutes. He’s a 2 star type player.

Lamb is better than Teague…but let’s not get carried away with his PG skills. He had a huge turnover at the end of the game. Looked like he had no idea about what to do with the ball.

    Hey Drew,

Yes I missed a free throw but Doron had two HUGE turnovers in the second half costing the team points and they were buzz kills. So no Doron shouldnt be point guard.

People need to ease up on Teague. He is playing the toughest position on the floor. He will come around. To all Teague’s critics out there: Save some ketchup for that big piece of crow you’ll have to eat in March.

    4) He’ll be available as soon as the semester ends (mid December). Based on the B-W game and BBM, he’s athletic, and will guard well. Lamb will probably still be second PG, though. But it helps to have another guard with SEC experience.

    22) We didn’t go inside enough. Got caught up in trying to match their 3s. Of course, it didn’t help that the refs weren’t calling fouls on UNC in the paint. Yes, there were a lot of bodies in there, but come on…

Heres one for anyone who says Jones shouldnt 3s’ his 3p% for the year so far is 64% highest on the team, this is some of the reason he came back this year to step up other aspects of his game which he is doin perfectly. Heres a stat for those tryin to say that Teague only had one turnover today, makin excuses for his play today (Turnovers per game 3.1 also leading the team) I made some posts about Teague earlier n I got to retract a lil, his game was off today,….yes he will get better,..yes he is only a kid but 65% of the team are only kids or young. Teague was scarred to death today in its obvious he doesnt have clutch abilities that the other KIDS have i.e. KIDD(the man) Gilchrest, BIG Ant Davis. But come March I beleive hell be up there with the rest, all Im sayin is he has ALOT of work to do PERIOD.

I know many UK fans are asking what happened to our perimeter defense but North Carolina was simply not going to miss from the three point land. I remember one possession Cats had like 3 great defensive blocks and ball went straight to Barnes hand and he swished a three. One possession I saw Miller was up in Bullocks GRILL but he made a highly contested three from the right wing. We could have folded our guys could have given up as soon as we tie the game or take the lead Carolina made a huge play on the other end to take the lead. Everyone deserves huge prop for never giving up until the last buzzer was sounded. I thought Teague took some ill-advised shots that led to Heels run out at the other end. Anyway you saw the game but am still very excited. Go Cats

tyson and Taybull matt, count me as another Vargas fan. Last year, when he came into a game, it was an adventure at best. This year when he comes in, I expect something good to happen. Jones, Lamb, and Miller are all better players than last season, but Vargas may be the most improved player on the team.
