Have you purchased your gigantic, green plastic glasses yet? They’re the new thing. Wall wore those through the entire game.
That’s not all that was going on, though. Let’s talk about a fun-filled Saturday afternoon in Lexington.
Rupp Arena was insane.
I wish every single one of you could’ve been there to witness it. UK somehow managed to find the 24,398 loudest people on the planet and crammed them into Rupp Arena. The crowd was electric from the opening tip until the last note in “My Old Kentucky Home” and I can still feel the intensity as I write this.
Luxury boxes bring revenue but nothing is more valuable to a program than the way Big Blue Nation brought the noise today. Give yourself a round of applause — if you have any applause left in you.
This one brought the celebrities out.
John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Tayshaun Prince, Tracy McGrady, Rasheed Wallace, Josh Hopkins, and Speaker of the House John Boehner were in attendance.
Rupp Arena’s own Speaker of the House was in the crowd too. I’m talking about the lovely Ashley Judd.
This one brought the media celebrities out, too.
I saw Mike DeCourcy, Jeff Goodman, Chad Ford, Seth Davis, Chip Cosby, and some guy with a mustache that would make Alan Cutler cry. That thing was beautiful. I sat beside him at the St. John’s game and I was tempted to ask him if he wanted to trade a mustache hair for an eyebrow hair like soccer players do with their jerseys after games. I was too intimidated to ask, though.
The hamburgers in the media room were left over from the Marist game.
Only the best when the stars come to town.
I won’t even talk about the potato salad.
Hey, Dikembe. Did you see John Henson’s jumper at the end of the game?
Not in Anthony Davis’ house.
The crowd brought the boos to Rupp Arena.
No, not like Billy Gillispie brought the booze to Rupp Arena. I mean the crowd wasn’t particularly satisfied with some of the calls. I’m not usually one to complain about officiating but this crew missed a couple and that’s putting it nicely. I didn’t have a good angle on some of them but there were plenty of bad calls that were blatantly obvious.
Tony Greene hates us.
Roy Williams said “dog-gone” in the press conference.
It won me ten bucks. He also hit us with this:
Jerry Tipton: “Roy, forgive me if you have already addressed this…”
Coach Williams: “Jerry, I’ve been forgiving you for 25 years. Just like everyone else in here.”
I like Doron Lamb at the point.
If a guy has to sit at crunch time, I’d rather it be Marquis Teague than Kidd-Gilchrist, Miller, or Lamb. Those three have to be on the floor when it matters the most.
Teague’s missed free throw on the one-and-one could’ve been a killer. After the game, Coach Cal said he made Teague stand up and hug Anthony Davis in the locker room.
Can I get a hug, too? I want to hug him. We all do.
How did Anthony Davis block that shot?
Best back-to-back Saturdays ever?
Kentucky better be unanimous No. 1 team in the country on Monday.
Don’t give me that Ohio State beat Duke by 18 crap.
North Carolina played a great game, shot 61% from three-point land, had a five-point lead at the half, and Kentucky got the W.
All they do is win, win, win no matter what.
