UK’s Riggs Soccer’s National Player of the Week

The (scrunched up) face of a Wildcat star, meet him here

Tired of the football talk?  Good, you shouldn’t be!  It’s the first game of the season.  But there is another type of football futbol UK is currently involved in.  And this time it involed awards.

UK’s sophomore Tyler Riggs was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s National Player of the Week.  Usually, when talking about ‘players of the week’, we immediately think of basketball and the pure ownage we’ve had of awards the past two seasons.  Sometimes we may think of Randall Cobb or Derrick Locke, who were also recent stars who got awards.  Now, we can chalk up another piece of hardware to a new sport: men’s soccer.

Tyler was last seasons leading goal scorer for the Cats.  He has already 3 goals on the season (game winner against Dayton and 2 versus Michigan in an upset).  He’s opened his first two seasons with game-winning goals.  That’s pretty impressive.  Riggs for some hardware last season, but this is his first national player of the week.  He’ll be recognized during  Fox Soccer Channel at 7:30 PM Friday. Come see Tyler play at home this Friday against Wright State at 7:00 PM.

The last time a UK player got this award was 2007.  Way to break the streak, Tyler.  A quick round of applause.

Okay, now back to pre-football game drinking.

Big deal, our soccer program rules. Unfortunately, our basketball and football teams get owned by the Cats. We got field hockey too!

I watched a HS soccer game the other night. I told the losing goalie that her team might have won if she would have done something besides stand around in front of the goal all night…she was not amused.

    1. Only temporarily… You will suck again soon. It will be hard to sustain any success in any program at that craphole you call a university.

Matt… I know a lot of us want more football coverage – maybe we should have been more specific. Should have known a lib would lean towards European ‘football’ instead of American football. Errrrrrr

@ say what… you are an idiot. ‘footbal’ dominates every continent (except north america.. yet) … which in turn provides for its’ fans being of every political affiliation imaginable.
