Technical foul on Liggins was the worst call i’ve ever seen. He makes a basket, turns his head, and gets a tech. It’s obvious. The refs know Liggins is the most important player on our team, so let’s punish him.

At least we’re getting beat by a team that can actually shoot…..usually we get torched by Mike Smith from North Idaho State.

Jones, once again, needs to get more involved in the offense, and his outside shooting % is the pits. He needs to be going to the rim.

Cal keeps doing the same thing over and over. Can the man not design a pick and roll involving Harrellson? Or some low post screens? If I were a roll player, I wouldn’t come here as I am only a garbage man!

There is just no low post offensive sets in Cal’s offense. You have to try to get it inside and be a threat and kick it back out. I am frustrated

@ the 5:37 mark after his big 3, Knight was begging for a timeout…Didn’t get it…5-0 Vandy run. Liggin’s passing? How many turnovers did he have in the last few minutes??? Vandy can shoot the ball. I guess we didn’t expect their leading scorer to take shots??? This group is just frustrating to watch. As many have pointed out before there just doesn’t seem to be any cohesion or leadership in this group of cats.

I am so f-ing sick and tired of us taking our sweet ass time getting down the court when there is less than a minute left in the game and we are down. We have done it in every single one of our road losses. On all of our last three possessions, Knight got the ball and just casually walks down the court before we pass it around for 10 seconds. Run down the court and take a freaking shot!!

    1) 3 guys with 4 fouls on Vandy’s team. Why did we not exploit that?
    2) Why do we pick the most critical times to make the riskiest passes?
    3) Are we selfish or just plain stupid?
    4) Are the players not executing, Cal not coaching, or a mixture of both?
    5) Kevin Stallings looks like a bald Billy Ray Cyrus.
    6) Tinsley looks like a guy you wouldn’t want to meet in a dark alley; or at least if you did, make sure you’re wearing a chain wallet.

cant see how this one was Cal’s fault..it was just stupid turnovers at crucial moments (liggins throwing the ball away twice in a row towards the end. up to that point though he played great and with much heart) So annoyed with this team, but sure as hell beats the tubby and gillespie years

these comments are incredibly embarrassing to rational uk fans. Absolutely pathetic. Vandy is a legitimate elite 8 team, and it was at home, and they were on fire. Sure it was disappointing but calling cal a bad coach is just ridiculous.

  51. Gary Busey

We obviously can’t win on the road and play well at home. We’ve had limited neutral site games, but did get play well against Washington and got thumped in Maui by UConn. Can we win on a neutral site? I honestly still think we can…problem being the more we lose the worse seed we have and will have to play a great team to make it to the Sweet 16. I honestly thought Vandy would get us this year at their place. Just sucks we had to go lose the gimme games to put us in this hole where it was a must win.

  52. BPsycho

#48 I agree we have no low post, but it’s the NCAA’s fault. Enes should be playing, PERIOD.

was no one else pretty much expecting a loss today? we’ve been shit on the road this year and vandy is one of the toughest road games to play. i hope those aren’t real uk fans calling for cal’s job

This team isn’t getting better. If I saw improvements I would feel differently. Tell me what has changed or what new wrinkles you have seen over the past few weeks. Get a damn post offense installed, stop relying on the guards to make everything happen and get Jones off the top of the damn key! He can only go left and he is no threat from 3 point range. But Cal’s offensive sets keep bringing he out to the perimeter which is just plain crazy.

#35 Did you even watch the game? Miller was hurt. How the hell is he supposed to do anything when he is hurt and can’t play? Miller annoys me as much as anyone, but good god you can’t blame him for this one.

#38 Jones is only looking for stats? Wow, I didn’t know someone could put up 25/9/2/2/3 with only one turnover and still be part of the problem. I’m sure if Josh Harrellson put up those numbers you’d be saying “Jorts is the only one with any heart on the team” or some other stupid cliche statement borrowed from 1975.

UK lost by 4 to a team that played well over their heads. There are Chicken Littles in every fanbase, but damn we have the lion’s share. The sky isn’t falling, this team is very good. Go check out Ken Pomeroy’s site, UK is very unfortunate to have the win-loss record that they have. Instead of freaking out and blasting everyone wearing blue every time the team loses, how about we take off the anger-tinted glasses and look at the team objectively. Are they as good as last year? No. Are they a damn good team that’s going to be a force in the NCAA Tournament? Yes.

  56. johnisblue
    3:32 pm February 12, 2011 Permalink

Give it a rest on ENES. That was a long-shot at best and Cal and Kentucky knew it. ENES was whip cream if we somehow pulled it off. Still, you can’t explain why there is never a play that involves Harrellson and Liggins or Harrellson and Jones in the box/post area. That is just plain foolish coaching in my opinion or being stubborn.

#49 If we had a “bunch of Ky boys” we’d be sitting a lot worse right now. I’m sure you weren’t saying that last year when Wall and Cousins were obliterating everyone.

  58. Ghost of Rupp
    3:38 pm February 12, 2011 Permalink

KY Boys would stick around for 3+ years, instead of selfishly jumping to NBA. Mashburn wasn’t born in the Bluegrass, but he played just as hard as a local cornbread boy.

Calimari’s kids leave after one year. They have NO IDEA what a UK/UL game is. They don’t get our tradition. For CHRISSAKES, these jokers don’t even know our state song on SENIOR NIGHT.

Did Cousins shed a tear to MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME? If not, I don’t want these Calimari squids playing for us.

  59. Gary Busey
    3:38 pm February 12, 2011 Permalink

Was interested about this, so I looked it up. The freshman year of the Fab Five, they went 25-9 and were 11-7 in conference play and were national runners-up. There’s still hope, but my concern is like many that I really don’t see any improvement–especially in late game execution.

  60. Flavor of the Meeks
    3:49 pm February 12, 2011 Permalink

#58 What would you rather have: a bunch of good ol’ homebred boys losing 15-20 games a year or Calipari’s crews making deep runs in the tournament every year? If your answer is the former, then I guess we just have to agree to disagree, because I honestly don’t give a shit where someone grew up.

Shedding a tear to My Old Kentucky Home is in no way representative of how someone performs on the court. You know this. It’s also a baseless statement if you’re using that as a barometer of someone’s love for Kentucky. I love Kentucky, but I most certainly don’t shed a tear to My Old Kentucky Home.

Seriously, you think these boys don’t play hard? You are seriously wrong if you think that’s the case. The only “KY boys” we have on the team (Hood and Polson) suck, and they don’t “play harder” than Knight or Jones. I can absolutely guarantee you that Knight and Jones have put in much more time in the gym than Polson could ever imagine. Basketball is life for Knight and Jones, that’s their future, their career. Nobody is just born as talented as Knight and Jones, you have to work for that. Polson’s career lies elsewhere, so it makes no sense for him to spend as much time in the gym as them.

#55 you are delusional……this team is decent at best. The more we lose, the worst our seeding gets. The over confident, over optimistic, blue tinted glasses need to go! We aren’t even going to be ranked in a few weeks. We will lose to tenn on the road. Not sure anyone has noticed, but these losses are almost the same with the exception of bama and uconn. That’s a sign of a weak/bad team. A good team would make adjustments and pull a win out or two. Next year will be the same. With 2-4 players gone off this team, the results will be similar . No bench!!! As you can tell us not having a bench was a major factor. I think vandy outscored our bench by 20!!! You can’t tell me vandy has better talent than UK ??? I feel the same anger and frustration as many of the previous posts. This is UK ……we are the best basketball program in the nation!! That’s why we are angry…..and for good reason.

I’m gonna go out on a limb…… is the worst we have been in 20 years on the road?? This will be a 11 loss team.

Unacceptable!!! Hope you are ready for some heat Cal!! You’re gonna get it….
