UK Track and Field: Ten Competitors Advance to Nationals

uktrackfield

The NCAA East Preliminary Championship wrapped up yesterday in Greensboro, North Carolina and ten separate Wildcats advanced to next month’s National Championship meet in Eugene, Oregon. Kentucky Track Coach, Edrick Floreal was satisfied with his team’s performance, but believes there’s room for improvement. “My overall take heading into the NCAA is we are moving forward. There is still quite a bit of work to do, but I think the most important thing at a meet like this is leaving an impression. When you make an impression where other people notice how much better and different the team is, to me, is important.”

The student-athletes who qualified are listed below with the event(s) in which they’ll be competing.

Women:

Chelsea Oswald (5,000 meters, 10,000 meters)

Kayla Parker (100-meter hurdles)

Rebecca Famurewa (Discus)

Keilah Tyson (100 meters)

Men:

Raymond Dykstra (Javelin)

Andrew Evens (Discus)

Keith Hayes (110-meter hurdles)

Matt Hillenbrand (1,500 meters)

Luis Orta (3,000-meter steeplechase)

Bradley Szypka (Shot Put)

The men and women’s track/cross-country program will become one of the most successful program in the SEC and nation in the next few years. The coaches are that good and they will attract some of the best athletes. This fall they have forty talented new freshmen joining the program. It should be fun.

High jumpers are awesome. How can anyone with a vertical jump of what, 30 inches (maybe), fling their entire bodies over a 6-foot wall? And yet, they do. So cool.
