UK Sends Out Their Media Release to Appease the NCAA

Here it is in its entirety. UK acknowledges that it has been informed of the NCAA win total but does not apologize for holding the ceremony.

Because UK sent it out, that means the NCAA accepted it, as the letter suggested it would have to do. So UK basically got away with saying, the “NCAA says we are wrong” without saying UK agreed OR that the University was sorry. Nice work…

After consulting with the NCAA, the University of Kentucky has been informed that the honoring of our head men’s basketball coach for his 500th career victory on Feb. 26, 2011 was in error and that, henceforth, we will reflect our head men’s basketball coach’s career record in our media guides, Internet sites and other publications consistent with the NCAA’s official records and statistics.

I’d like to know if “anyone”, and I’m including Duke and the School of the Blind, actually respects the NCAA in any way.

Name one person or entity who respects their statements, decisions, deliberations, or authority.

As if UK did this for any reason other than to make sure our 8th NCAA trophy is polished before it’s dropped off next season.

    “We will reflect…consistent with the NCAA’s records…”

No apology and no direct recognition that the NCAA is 100% in the right and correct. Love it. Go Cats.

Now if we can get an official statement like this from MLB:

After consulting with the fans, MLB has been informed that the honoring of Barry Bonds for his 756th home run on August 7, 2007 was in error and that, henceforth, we will reflect our the all time home run champion as Henry Aaron.

This pissed me off at first, having to go and adjust the record books. But then I thought about it, and realized that 500 is just a number. You can’t quantify how great Calipari has been for this program.

The NCAA can have its f*cking number. We’ll just keep on winning.

My “hate” for the NCAA continues to grow with each incident like this. I don’t mean just with UK, the OSU situation, the years of Reggie Bush investigation, the Corey Miepie $$, etc. I wish someone or institution would sue the bastards with a goal of requiring some independent board, agency, committee to have some oversight over these idiots.

I thought that we thought that they thought it was ok or something….way to go barnhead. That video of our AD giving Coach the ball is hysterical. Cal was trying to get away from him.

  25. Buckets
    4:34 pm June 16, 2011 Permalink

They should put Cal’s win full win total in the media quide with an asterisk that says the NCAA is a bunch of pricks that only recognize x number of wins.

  26. CatFanInKC

It would be better if they’d responded with 5 pages worth of BS that just danced around the issue. What a joke.

  27. Guck Foodman
    4:39 pm June 16, 2011 Permalink

I hope this means that Cal will coach to age 90 just to have the all time wins record, even with wins taken away because a player took money from an agent, and another player might have had someone take a test for him.

  28. Don

8 months in and Emmerts forst priority was to get with the NBA and clear up the whole 1 and done thing. How’s that working out so far?

I run into idiots at the top of the business pecking order every day and wonder how in the hell they ever made it to their position, and it’s simply because they know someone and it was allowed. No one there to push against it. Emmert was a horrible hire and people knew it, but allowed it to happen.

IMHO it is a personal vendetta vs. the University and Cal for obvious reasons. He is a simpleton in every sense of the word, and has no credibility.

This absolutely tickles me to death. UK simply refuses to apologize when they’ve not done anything to apologize for. If folks are paying attention: Lately, the University et al have changed a long-standing practice of just letting “crap” go by, unresponsively. In recent flaps over Barnhart’s extension, Knight’s ridiculous assertions, this nonsense and it seems a couple others, University spokespersons are beginning to stand-up and hit back. Long overdue. Put bluntly: only the innocent are unafraid of a pissin’ contest with the media but the University has pretty well put it out there. The naysayers and the haters best be taking heed because, if this innuendo and fabrications nonsense continues, somebody’s gonna get hit with a lawsuit and relieved of a lot of money!

Did anyone watch the Inside College Basketball show on the CBS Sports channel last night? It may have been a replay from an earlier episode but they were interviewing Cal over the phone and they posted his career stats and those numbers included all the vacated wins. I’ll be waiting for the apology from CBS coming soon.

This is the same entity that allowed the 4 OR 5 NCAA violating Ohio State football players to play in a BCS Bowl Game and serve their
Suspensions the following year. Not exactly a model of integrity and ethics. Someone should recruit as many elite schools as possible and start
a college version of NFL’s AFL. Compete against the NCAA and run a better association.

Cal had a great point about NCAA. Agents can pay players, and the ncaa will just susupend them a few games. Yet Enes is punished for his father taking money. And unbelievably, the NCAA lets Cam Newton play, whose father attempted to take money (and I’m betting Auburn paid him as well). Factor in the Ohio St debacle, and its pretty obvious the NCAA doesn’t like UK.

Why didnt Coach K have to vacate his wins when Magette got an agent? What UK did wasnt even an violation. Legally UK could have said suck our Enes and there Is nothing the NCAA could have done about It. However, knowing the whining titty babys they are…..they would have come digging for trash In Lexington and we dont need that. We have enough dumpster divers trying to sort through our garbage to find something we are doing wrong.

In my opinion, UK shouldn’t be antagonizing the NCAA. We have 2 strikes against us… 1) We’re UK 2) He’s Calipari. UK should be trying to avoid the NCAA wrath instead of encouraging it. If they want to find something, they will. There is no way to police the whole program. They can screw you for something as simple as free food at Joe Bologna’s. I am as big a UK fan as anyone, but why push the issue.. It was a dumb move, they could have waited another year and avoided more bad publicity. I for one am tired of the negative press.

    Dear NCAA,
It has come to our attention that during the 1998-1999 season, one Corey Maggette, a player for Duke University (Duck Fuke), admitted to receiving payments from AAU coach/agent Myron Piggie. As this truly troubling event clearly violates NCAA bylaw 123.A$$.312002.Q, we expect a rapid response from you in relation to this absolutely truly terribly terrible event, that should include confirmation of all wins achieved by Duck Fuke university being hereby vacated, and both Duck Fuke’s and their coach’s (Mike KRyqeu2893reehjsldnklsratboy) career wins record altered to reflect the changing of this event. In addition, we would like to say “go to hell”.

    Sincerely,
