In all of our post-live blog excitement last night, we might have overlooked a very important note in a Larry Vaught story that Aaron posted in his links. Due to a large increase in media requests, UK will not allow opposing cheerleaders at Rupp Arena this year because there won’t be enough room for them anymore (insert fat UNC cheerleader joke here).
Since the basketball will actually be entertaining this year and few of us are between the ages of 13 and 18 or named Matt Jones, it’s likely that the removal of visiting cheerleaders will not impact on your game experience. It does, however, again signal what a circus of intrigue the UK basketball team is becoming in John Calipari’s first season. Stories will be abundant and the entertainment value will be high, so every semi-credible media outlet in the country (or world) is trying to jump on board. But, for those of you happy with all the exposure, be careful what you wish for. First, it’s the cheerleaders. Then, the next thing you know, Beano Cook is sitting on The Heavy Hitter’s lap, sharing some popcorn.
It should be noted, though, that if this news frustrates or troubles you, all hope is not lost. All signs indicate that you will still be able to make SEC cheerleaders uncomfortable with awkward conversation at the SEC Tournament like the rest of is. And, of course, you can still get your Louisville cheerleader fix through Google.
