The nominations for this year’s McDonald’s All American game came out earlier this week, and in typical ‘Death and Taxes’ form, the recruits Kentucky has either signed or is still pursuing are all over the list. In fact, all three of UK’s commitments for next year’s class are nominated, so it looks like the Cats will be well represented in the game yet again. Here are the relevant nominees:
Archie Goodwin – Sylvan Hills HS, Sherwood, AK (Someone should probably tell them he’s not from Arizona.)
Tony Parker – Miller Grove HS, Lithonia, GA
Willie Cauley – Olathe Northwest HS, Olathe, KS
Anthony Bennett – Findlay Prep, Henderson, NV
Shabazz Muhammad (Surprise!) – Bishop Gorman HS, Las Vegas, NV
Amile Jefferson – Friends Central HS, Wynnewood, PA
Alex Poythress – Northeast HS, Clarksville, TN
A few notes on the list…
–The state of Kentucky has zero nominees, tied for the fewest with a bunch of other states that have zero nominees.
–Go ahead and guess the state with the most nominees. Did you guess Iowa? Well, if you did, you’re surprisingly right. The Hawkeye State has 36 names on the list, followed by Washington with 30, Tennessee with 24, and Oregon and Texas with 19 each.
–One of those on the list from Tennessee is Jarnell Stokes, who isn’t really in high school anymore and is instead learning to ride his bike without training wheels and write in cursive at the University of Tennessee.
—UK Hoops has a commitment on the women’s list, as Janee Thompson of Whitney Young HS in Illinois made the cut. Thompson is a point guard ranked 6th at her position and 34th overall in 2012 by ESPN, and is the only commitment in next year’s class thus far for Coach Mitchell’s squad
–The McDonald’s All American Game will be played on March 28th, and held in Chicago’s United Center for the second straight year. The final rosters will be announced on February 9 in an ESPNU special which, if it holds true to form for all other ESPNU recruiting specials, will be excruciating to watch.
