UK “poking around” with Lyles before his decommitment

ESPN’s No. 7 overall player from the class of 2014, Trey Lyles, decommitted from Indiana yesterday in a somewhat surprising announcement. Lyles lives just 45 minutes away from Assembly Hall and he gave a verbal to the Hoosiers in September of 2010 prior to his freshman season of basketball. But now he’s opened things back up and he’s listening to all schools.

According to Jeff Goodman, Kentucky was talking to Lyles prior to his decommitment. The man who refuses to accept generosity at Hooters tweeted, “Keep hearing that Syracuse & Kentucky had been poking around with Trey Lyles prior to his de-commitment from IU.”

That doesn’t mean Kentucky is a new leader, though. In an interview with Dave Telep, Trey Lyles’ father didn’t even mention the Cats when asked about potential destinations.

“The schools that he’s mentioned the North Carolina’s, Duke’s, UCLA’s, Syracuse places like that is what he’s mentioned but I would say his main one might be North Carolina or Duke,” Tom Lyles told ESPN. “Trey’s mentioned Georgetown too.”

It’ll likely be a while before Lyles makes any kind of a decision, but I love the possibility of Calipari taking one, especially a future star, from Indiana.

I’ve been thinking about it a lot. A whole lot.

Funny….I hear crean. Is the one who’s. Been poking. Around

Geez…who wouldn’t decommit if their coach kept sending them creepy Sandusky-esque texts?

I could care less if we have been “poking around.” Happens to us more often than not in football. Tell Crean to quit recruiting 8th graders.

I thought Crean and Calipari were BFFs? That is kind of surprising if true.

I blame the kid, his parents & IU; the kid should have never made a verbal commitment that early in his high school career & IU should have been cautious of a kid giving a verbal that early.

Like clockwork, Goodman chimees in and blames it on UK.

Hey Goodman, tell us more about WWW, one and dones, Bledsoe’s grades, Cal, AD’s $250K payment, and blah blah blah… I haven’t heard enough yet.

Why would Cal have to resort to talking to committed players when uncommitted players of the same caliber are begging for an offer? This would be surprising if true.

I just checked Lyles “pokes” on Facebook and I didn’t see any from Coach Cal or UK. But there was one from a Bernie Fine, dated almost 4 years ago.

10- There is a difference between HAVING to resort to something, and CHOOSING to resort to it. Cal doesn’t have to resort to contacting commited recruits. He chose to. And that’s if what Goodman “heard” is even true.

This doesn’t surprise me at all that Cal would be resorting to recruit committed players. Looks like him and Tommy aren’t that good’a buddies after all.

First… hey hoosiers, quit driving slow in the fast lane, and get the F over!

I would say after what transpired after the miracle shot at iu last year, Cal said to himself, “no more Mr. Niceguy with these f’ers!”

I find it strange that UK is “poking” around before the de-commit, but UK isn’t listed as possible destinations! I would think UNC and Duke are the one’s poking around if they are the leaders. If the kid doesn’t mention UK it is because Cal doesn’t see him as a contributor to the program, or the kid knows if he comes here, his parents and family will have to leave the state fearing their lives, due to the fact iu has UK envy.

Don’t act like this is something Cal doesn’t do Chane Behanon, dropped him in remember Cal was trying to call and talk to him as he and his family were driving to U Of L to sign. So Cal, is a slim just like all other coaches.

Lets see, unnamed sources, vague terminology since he didn’t clarify what poking around means, and throw in Calipari and you have a story. Clown journalism bro.

Goodman hasn’t said a single word about academic fraud at UNC though. If you’re BBN and you follow him you’re a clown too.

  22. Dear IU and UL, We are National Champs; you are not. The end.
    3:10 pm August 8, 2012 Permalink

    20) I bet Chane B’s mom wishes he would have picked UK. He’d have a championship ring and his mom would be driving a new Cadillac right now. Instead, Chane is studying for some American History exam and hoping he doesn’t get shot on campus.

Kentucky also produces National Championships…like this year…when we scored over 100 points on IU on our way to UK’s 8th championship…

Really, what exactly does he mean by poking around? Did Cal talk to him, talk to his family, look at him funny, what exactly does that mean?

20 you probably really are Chane…your grammar/post wreaks of UofL stupidity. Cal is slim? I’m sure he’d appreciate that but even us UK fans can admit that he’s hanging out at Dunkin Donuts a little too much.

Tommy’s tweets are so whiney “I told my staff today that my football coaching friends think fb recruiting is like mbb recruiting because you have to deal with so many People that get involved. We think that more and more people never stop recruiting other school’s pledges. We are both right. Way of life.

  30. theSkinny81

So, lemme get this straight: the kid is a mid range recruit, and commits to IU. Then he improves a little bit, turns some heads, and top tier teams take notice, and he de-commits from IU. So basically, he realized he’s too good for IU? Awesome…

    20 – one more time, in English….

  31. Not as Slim, but Still Classy?

#20-I think Coach Cal would appreciate you calling him as slim as all the other coaches. It may be more accurate to say he is slimmer than some but not others? But thanks for playing.
