Shout out to the crew at Helton Law Offices in Danville for getting into the spirit of International Talk Like a Pirate Day. “Captain Mom” looks especially festive.
Some notes of the day…
— Kentucky finally gets to play on an aircraft carrier! Hooray! In case you missed it below, ZagsBlog is reporting that the Cats will play in the 2013 Carrier Classic, along with Texas, N.C. State, Missouri, Florida State, Gonzaga, Wake Forest and Davidson. The Cats would likely face off against Texas on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. Pack your swim trunks and your flippy floppies!
— The Big Blue Madness campout is well under way, with what seems to be record turnout. As of 9:30 this morning, 425 tents were up, which is well ahead of last year’s pace. And yes, yellow tent guy finally got his tent up:
— Rashawn has notes from football practice below, but here are a few quick hitters: Maxwell Smith’s shoulder is feeling better, but he admits he isn’t back to 100% yet. CoShik Williams is now doubtful for the Florida game. Also, according to Joker, yesterday’s practice was “bad,” but today’s was significantly better. Phew?
— If you heard the radio show/podcast today, you heard Jared Lorenzen call in to address the “feud” between him and Brent Pease, Florida’s new offensive coordinator that used to coach Lorenzen during his time at UK. When Pease was hired, Lorenzen tweeted some not-so-nice things about him, calling him “freaking crazy” and “brutal” and saying that the only good thing about the hire was “now we can shut them down.” Pease was asked about these remarks in July, and had this to say about the former UK QB: “I coached Jared. Jared is one of those guys that was talking trash when I took this job. So that’s good for about two extra launch plays, trying to get 50 points on those guys when they come to campus.”
With the UK/Florida game days away and expectations for UK’s performance at a new low, those comments have come back up. Lorenzen told Matt on the radio show that the two have simply never gotten along, especially after Pease left UK with Guy Morris for Baylor. When asked about Lorenzen and Pease’s comments at practice today, Joker laughed and jokingly told Jared to “shut the hell up,” before apologizing to Pease on Lorenzen’s behalf. Maybe that means they’ll only hang 42 on us??
— Thoughts and best wishes go out to Roy Williams, who is recovering from surgery to remove a kidney tumor. Williams, who is listed in “good condition,” will likely have to undergo another surgery next month, but expects to be ready to coach when practice start on October 12th.
— Finally, shortest press conference ever?
Sigh. I gotta go.
