UK one of six schools to receive academic excellence award from NABC

Six BCS level institutions were recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for academic excellence; the University of Kentucky was one of them, the NABC announced today. The Wildcats received the inaugural Team Academic Excellence Award, given for outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2012-13 season.

Kentucky has tallied a 3.0 or higher cumulative team GPA during the spring semester in each of the last three seasons including during the 2012 National Championship run.

Twany Beckham and Jarrod Polson were honored individually by the NABC for excellence in the classroom.

Go Cats.

Shut up, Bobby Knight.

It’s one thing for us to know it; it’s another for everyone else to know it as well. Congratulations guys. And screw you Bobby Knight.

Cal: “You know, now that I’m on the board I think there should be a new award…yeah, one that recognized teams with a 3.0 GPA…yeah, UK is one of them, so what?”

Is this for all athletic teams in the school, or are we just talking about the basketball team?

Yeah, Cal has so much pull as the newest member of the board that he unilaterally decided to give his own school an award. That’s not far fetched and ridiculous at all. And even if you were right (you’re not), then so what? 5 other schools got this award too, it’s not like it was only UK. I’m sure if Indiana was honored this way they would cut down the nets at Assembly Hall and hang a banner

Bobby Knight & Gordon Gee can both hold hands as they eat their words and suck d!ck. Why are they always mad when they are proven wrong?

#4 as stated in the very first sentence of this post, the award is from the NABC, the national association of BASKETBALL coaches. Do you see any reason they would award FOOTBALL players?

Can we stop pretending that the majority of these guys earn these grades? Between tutors, online classes, and downright favoritism I would be surprised if they DIDN’T earn such high marks.

#11 I dont know where you’re coming from. There’s just as much to point to these kids being smart, hard workers as there is to point to the factora you listed.

And who are the other 5 schools?

    11. Can you stop pretending you know they didn’t. I was a college athlete and in many cases the teachers had a bias against the athletes. Think about it, their co-workers are earning big salaries to coach a sport and they get very little until they have been there 20-30 years. So, Mikes Jones, you and Knight can shut up….now.
