UK is still on top

The Cats are still No. 1 in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll that was just released. However, Ohio State took three more first place votes away from UK from last week. Kentucky received 19 first place votes to Ohio State’s 11. Someone out there still likes Syracuse, too.

North Carolina dropped to No. 6 after the loss while Louisville moved up to No. 4.

I really hope we both stay undefeated until Dec. 31. I will be sitting in the nosebleed section but I can not imagine what Rupp will be like if its UK vs. UL and they are ranked 1 and 2. Wow.

Folks, this is what you call a talent drop off. If you agree with Katz, as I do, then North Carolina really is the third best team. From UK, OSU, and UNC the talent level drops drastically with the remaining teams. Yes, even UCONN is not top 3 worthy simply because Kemba’s killer instinct is gone and their youth is far more underdeveloped than ours. The fact that U of L is ranked 4th in the country is absurd, but people are going to say that a win against “so far overrated” Vandy is a reasonable benchmark for that.

Lol that coaches put Louisville above UNC. Coaches clearly have no idea what they’re doing, just voting W-L records basically.

#7- completely agree, it one thing to get the benefit of the doubt of a hard fought game against a top team, but when you get you ass handed to you it obviously shows you arent on the same level.
#16- disagree, i like what andy katz had to say and I agree with his statement. unlike football, rankings at the end of the season dont matter to make the tournament and therefore the rankings should show, as much as they can, who are the best teams. yes they did loose to UNLV but a loss to the #1 team on the road by 1 is not bad.
either way cats are #1 and thats all that matters to me. bring on IU

Somebody really liked Bosie St. in football all year until they got beat. #7 for Puke to only drop one spot is because OSU is the best team in the country. To bad they will lose at least 3 times in the Big Ten. I’m glad UL is ranked high, that will help the SOS when we beat them at Rupp. They might actually be the 2nd best team in the state this year!

16 – are you stupid? They lost us, the #1 ranked team in the nation. If anything, they shoudl have stayed the same spot or moved up one. UNC is one of a few teams who can beat us right now. Talent is awesome with an excellent coach.

  23. Wilderbeasts
    1:38 pm December 5, 2011 Permalink

Louisville at #4 is a joke. They struggle against small programs and squeak out a win against Vandy. When they get into conference play, they are going to get embarrassed. Don’t worry, they won’t stay that high for long the way they’re playing now.

Props to UNC on moving up in the AP poll. They played a good game, but as always, the True Blue proves to be the better team.

  25. wilDCat

I agree with everyone who is arguing with #16 up there. UNC is easily one of the top 3 teams in the country regardless of their loss to UNLV, so ranking them as such makes sense. I wasn’t surprised to see em move up in the AP poll because honestly they deserve to be up there. U of L though I am not sold on, but I’m excited for a good game on NYE

  26. Carl

UL is still being ranked on potential. I’m not sure how much getting Battle and company off the IR list is going to help but at full strength they might be top 25. Certainly not top 10, but I like the idea of them being top 5 when we play them. Will only build on our incredible street cred when we pound them into a puddle of BE BS!!

    GO CATS!

I think Carolina should have dropped more than just one spot and likewise for Duke as well. While I do think North Carolina is a top three team based on their body of work they do not deserve to be ranked in the top ten. When those that are unbeaten lose move them up but don’t reward Heels and Devils by keeping them at the top. Vanderbilt lost one game and they free fall all the way to #20. This is the reason do not read to much into polls they are just absurd. I knew we had a great time last year even after those road losses and we proved in the NCAA Tournament. Go Cats

Heard from a NBA scout that Rick Pitino has the reputation of being the dirtiest coach out there as far as bribing players and that coach K was the meanest foulest coach in college basketball next to good ole Bob Knight. Neither of whoms teams belong in the top 5, I’m not even sure loserville should be in the top 10.

  41. sangaman

We should just let Vegas oddsmakers make the top 25, they would no doubt have the most accurate/meaningful rankings. No way they’d put Louisville at 4.

Moving UNC up is fine, I think most would agree they’d beat Syracuse/Duke/UL etc most of the time on a neutral floor.

Interestingly, their win over Wisconsin was less impressive than their loss to UK, I believe. Winning by 3 vs the ~10th best team in the country at home is easier than losing by 1 to the best team in the country on the road.

U of L’s only “quality” win was vs. Vandy, which they only won by 2 points in overtime and Vandy was WITHOUT their starting Center, Festus Ezeli, who averaged 13 points per game last year AND they did not have their backup Center, Josh Henderson, who is also out with an injury.

Ksr deleting my post about rick pitino and coach k? Whats up with that? All I said was an NBA scout told me about ricky P being the dirtiest of the dirty (bribing his players) and coach k being exactly like bob knight (mean and down right nasty to his players). The truth will set you free.

What you ignorant cats fans do not realize is that Louisville was preseason top-10. They have not lost so there is no way they can move down or be jumped by inferior teams. Last time I checked, they are still undefeated so until they lose a game, they deserve the current 4 spot.

Cards were preseaon 8, and why? Didn’t they lose to Morehead State? Of course that was the greatest OVC team ever, ask Pittino. Of course Cards fans you’re undefeated….

Let’s see, wins at home against national powers like Ohio, Arkansas State and Lamar (wasn’t Lamar one of the kids in the Cosbey Show), a no ref in sight,.foul when we please win over short-handed Vandy.

I wish Kentucky would drop Louisville. Their games are like watching pre-shot clock games. 22 points in the first half against Arkansas State?

Of course Louisville hasn’t loss. Every game besides one has been a home game against powers such as Ohio, Arkansas State and Lamar. They beat a short handed Vandy, at home. Beat a 4-4 Butler on the road. Wow, impressive. UK, UNC, and the rest of s.the top ten has played real schedules.
