UK Hoops ranked #7 in preseason Coaches’ Poll

The first women’s basketball ESPN coaches’ poll was released today and UK Hoops came in at #7, their highest preseason ranking in that poll in history. In fact, this is their third consecutive year being ranked in the preseason.

It’s just the latest praise in a preseason of accolades, which includes the Cats being picked to finish first in the SEC, A’dia Mathies being named SEC Preseason Player of the Year, and junior Samarie Walker making the All-SEC Second Team. A’dia Mathies also received honorable mention on the Associated Press preseason All-America team, which was released today.

You go, girls. Dance like no one’s watching.

We really need to fire Mitch Barnhart, our girls coach should focus more on winning championships than dancing

Barnhart made the program relevant again by hiring Mitchell. He is recruiting lights out.

Should be a fun winning season

Love me some Cal but we gotta make sure we keep Coach Mitchell. He’s done as much of a turn-around with the woman’s program as Cal has with the men’s. He may be competing for national championships before long….and he dances!!
    GO CATS!

Totally agree with 2&3. Mitchell has embraced the program just as well (if not better) thank Cal has. Good attitude and getting the right talent to put together great seasons. He’s here to stay people.

Anyone know why the women’s team is called UK Hoops every time? Is that something that the UK Athletic Dept came up with or is that just a KSR thing?

UK Hoops ranked #7????? The UK womens team is not UK hoops… They are not even worthy of mention as a Kentucky affiliated basketball program. There is only one, ONE, UK Basketball team.

    1. I see what you did there…..

The team was actually announced as the Wildcats during BBM. Probably just a mistake.

Anyone know why Rebeca Greenwell from Owensboro did not chose to go to UK for Womens basketball? She is in the top ten ranked players in the nation and chose DUKE over Notre Dame!! She plays for OCHS — Notre Dame made a little bit of sense, but Duke over UK WTF!

#6, IIRC, the UK Athletics dept several years ago decided to refer to UK Women’s basketball as “UK Hoops”. “Lady Cats” wasn’t PC enough.
