This afternoon the UK Women’s team gave everyone a little preview of how I suspect the men’s game on New Year’s Eve will end up looking, as they beat down the visiting Lady Dirty Birds by a final score of 74-54. The lead was 17 at halftime and stayed in double digits pretty much the whole way to give UK Hoops a dominant win not only over their rival, but also over a team ranked in the top 15. Matthew Mitchell doesn’t just dance, folks. He also coaches winning basketball.
A’dia Mathies had 20 points and hit 4-6 three pointers for Kentucky, who knocked down 10 of their 19 three-point attempts overall. They forced 24 Louisville turnovers, which was good considering they committed 26 of their own, but held the Lady Cards to 39% shooting to coast to the win. The victory, which the Kentucky men’s team watched, serves as a nice warmup to the huge Rupp Arena showdown against #6 Duke Thursday night. You should probably go to that, by the way. For now though, you can try to decide whether you think Kentucky wins the Louisville game on Dec. 31st by more or less than the women’s team just took their version.
