There was no hangover for UK’s women’s team after their back-to-back wins over top-10 teams, as they crushed Arkansas Pine Bluff in Memorial Coliseum this afternoon, 101-43. Bria Goss and Keyla Snowden each scored 19 to lead the ladies in the win, but those were far from the most impressive numbers from the game. The most impressive? Kentucky forced an absurd 49 turnovers in the win. The stat is a new school record, but actually only eclipsed the previous record, set earlier this year against Jacksonville State, by a single turnover. For anyone who’s counting, 49 turnovers is an average of one every 49 seconds, and that would be if Pine Bluff had the ball for every minute of the game. Instead, UK forced more turnovers than their opponents had field goal attempts (33). Any way you break it down, Matthew Mitchell’s team put up a pretty amazing defensive performance.
Today was a little bit of a break for UK Hoops, as they’ll resume a tough stretch of games when they go on the road to face third-ranked Notre Dame one week from today. That game will be broadcast on ESPNU, and you should probably watch it. Coach Mitchell’s squad is rolling right along and if they manage to knock off the Irish to give them their third highly ranked win in two weeks, they could make a run at topping the school’s all-time best ranking of #4 in 1982. Hopefully they can keep it going.
