Word is out this afternoon that Matthew Mitchell has signed another recruit to his 2011-2012 class: Bra’Shey Ali, a 6-foot swing player from Plainfield, N.J. She will join her fellow freshmen next week and has been ruled eligible to play in the 2011-2012 season. Ali was ranked both the 36th-best guard (ESPN’s Hoopgurlz.com) and the 19th best forward (Blue Star Basketball recruiting service) in last year’s senior class and chose Kentucky over West Virginia, Louisville and Rutgers. In fact, Ali originally signed with West Virginia, but changed her mind, probably because she realized she’d have to go to school in West Virginia.
Ali has been described as a versatile and athletic player who can play along the perimeter and inside the paint and led her team to a state championship in her senior season, in which she averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game. She joins Azia Bishop (Toledo, Ohio) and Bria Goss (Indianapolis, Ind.) in Mitchell’s 2011 class, which was recently ranked #10 by ESPN Hoopgurlz. Kudos to Mitchell for bringing in his second consecutive top-10 recruiting class.
Now, we’ll take some of the signing fever on the men’s side, if you don’t mind.
