UK Football on the verge of three more committments

It’s early, but Phillips’ 2013 recruiting class is shaping up nicely. Eleven players have already committed to the Cats and it looks like three more may do the same by the end of the week. Phillips and his coaching staff have made an effort to not only get some of the best recruits in-state, but are being very aggressive in pursuing out-of-state athletes, specifically in the Florida area. Five of the eleven commits are from Florida, and Phillips could be adding a sixth with three-star (Rivals) safety Austin Logan. Logan is a Tallahassee, Florida native who made an unofficial visit to campus a couple of weeks ago. He also has offers from Purdue, South Florida, and Vanderbilt. In addition to Logan, Kentucky could receive verbals from two Georgia players. Speedy wide receivers Rashard Fant and Deangelo Yancey are rumored to be close to committing to the Cats as well. Both Fant and Yancey have clocked in with sub-4.5 40 times and would be nice additions to Phillips’ class.

Here’s a video of Logan, a hard-hitting DB:

Wow! One of the three is even ranked. That makes 3 of the last 4 commitments are unranked players. I’d say that class is “shaping up nicely”. Looks like Joker is bringing in warm bodies just to show we actually have an incoming class. Give Joker 3 more years! He has his plan in place and it/s coming around nicely!

Hope they know joker won’t be there next year

These are the recruits that no other team in the SEC wants. Still will finish in last place.

Fant has offers from Florida St., Ohio St., and Ole Miss.
Yancey has offers from Ole Miss, NC State, and Wake Forest.

    1- pretty much

If Vandy and Purdue both offered, kid has some smarts- which does not bode well for UK’s chances. Both programs offer better football and better academics.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on Logan.

What really sucks is, the next coach is going to be handcuffed by all the 0 * scholarships Joker is giving out. Joker is intentionally setting up the next guy for failure.

I guess there are still kids that want to say they play in the SEC – no matter how far down the SEC ladder…

Man I really wish you miserable as$holes wouldn’t comment. Certainly there is something better you could do with your time. Sounds to me like these are three young men we should be excited to welcome to the fold.

IF these kids really have offers from better schools, and they still pick UK – them Mitch must actually be doing the recruiting – and telling kids that there will be a new coach next season.

UK could offer 5 star kids an Escalade and a Bentley – and they’d still pick Bama or LSU or Fla.

You idiots. Scout and Rivals have not done a complete evaluation of the 2013 class. I will guarantee that none of the players in this class will be 0 * by the start of next season.

Funny thing is it won’t matter what the Cats do this year, you’re still gonna say get rid of Joker. ‘Cause let’s be honest, the top tier teams will more than likely beat UK. Maybe they pull off an upset, and should win most of or all (f u of l ) their non-conference, but what would it really take for you to get off the brother’s back. He’s one of us for Christ sake.

#7 – Darf, is that all ya got? UK’s recruiting class is ranked last, again. Joker continues to disappoint on the recruiting trail – and does not coach kids up. He turned two 4 / 5 star kids into duds (Moss and Newton). Are we really suppose to get excited over kids that aren’t ranked? Hope you got your season tickets!

All the people with the dumb ass comments should go and try to coach Kentucky, and see if you can do any better. Almighty Brooks never got any 5 star recruits. With Mitch as the AD its not gonna change. Whoa are we gonna get that is going to do any better? Top coaches are not jumping to come Coach at KY. Reality Check Internet Bullies.

11 – “get off a brothers back” Is that where the conversation is going? Well for your information, I cheered for Joker back when I was a kid (his color didn’t affect me). And his color doesn’t affect me now – he is NOT getting the job done, and he wont here at UK.

So, who’s gonna pick Joker up after he gets fired? USC, Alabama, Ohio St???

You guys that have blind love for Joker, crack me up. I hate what Joker and you are doing to my program.

But at the same time he has coached 2 stars up to first-team All-SEC players. And if you are going to consider Newton and Moss duds then you also have to consider players like Winston Guy and Larry Warford a success. BTW, yes I got my season tickets, because I am a FAN.

UK will have the 15th best recruiting class in the SEC. Wait, there are only 14 teams.

Fant is an ESPN top 150 prospect. Either he is playing against poor competition or he has elite agility because he makes his touchdowns look effortless. could be our next Randal Cobb type with his experience running the wildcat in high school. Whatever position he play he has game changing ability when he gets the ball in his hand. He would be an amazing pick up for us who could immediately make an impact with us on special teams.

Yancey is currently unranked but he has some really good tools with his size [6’2 and his 4.55 speed]. Hopefully coach Washington can develop this guy’s tools and make him into a great reciever. A red shirt year would serve him well. He played a lot of different positions on his highlight tape [WR, slot, tight end] so he must grasp the offense pretty quickly.

Logan is the 24th ranked safety according to espn. He is an aggressive tackler who would be better off bulking up so he can be in the box. He would be a great fit in the hybrid position but will have to gain around 20 pounds. He has a great initial burst but his top speed is pretty average for his position.

I like the class we are putting together; Although it is easy to judge a class based on what Scout/Rivals/ESPN put up a lot of what decides how great a player can be depends on coaching and developing. Joker has recruited better than any other coach we have had. Now we have to develop these guys. Although the results were poor last year we have done a good job developing our young talent under Joker.

Nice try 15. I said “give a brother a break” because he too is a Wildcat. More so than I, and probably you too. The reality is that if the Cats play poorly he will be out of a job. But why throw dirt on his grave before the season starts. Keep it real, UK’s defense was good par year, they just had to spend entirely too much time on the field. Max Smith wasn’t ready at the beginning of the season, and got hurt as he was hitting his stride. Watch the Georgia game again and tell me these guys weren’t getting better as the season progressed. The offense will be MUCH better, and you will eat crow.

Ok guys (looking at you ‘Common’), who is paying yall to visit sites and talk up Joker?

If Joker is given more time at UK, we will be fighting Eastern and Murray for players.

Funny how people say, “WHAT IF” the team gets some upsets, a bowl, beats uofl??? Well, when the talent level and expectations are set sooooo low, there is ONLY room for improvement.

Have you not been reading that Rant is a Top 150 player on ESPN? Or are you going to jump on the wagon of negativity like ‘SteveM’ up there? I’m not talking up Joker, I’m saying let him do his job. The criticism is flat out ridiculous and has no justification. Choose who you want to be, as for me, I will be a fan.

Joker and Mitch know both more “W”s are required and a more exciting offensive scheme must be employed. The staff knows it. The kids know it. Joker will either get six plus wins or likely be gone. If you have heard Chris Collinsworth talk about Patrick Towles you know there is reason to hope. “The Babe” won here long ago. “The Deuce” won here. Andre won here. Hey, I hear we beat Tennessee and if we beat Louisville in the first game….

Some UK fans seem to be content with the status of the football program and the coaching staff while others want a coaching change and a new direction for the football program. Some contend UK is a basketball school and it seems they could care less one way or the other. Right or wrong, the battle for UK football is raging and that can be good.(hope)

But lets look at some facts. UK is consistently at the lower half of the SEC in football, even before Missouri & Tex.A&M. UK recruits are always on the bottom tier (with few exceptions) amoung SEC schools. Facilities always seem to lag behind (with few exceptions) other SEC schools. The gift bowls from the mighty SEC will be fewer because SEC has become stronger. Something is wrong, something is bad wrong.

There are some season ticket holders who are saying that, those fans who did not renew their season tickets, are not true blue fans. Some even suggest that if you did not graduate from UK you are not considered a true blue fan. Do all of you have season tickets to UK basketball, no but you are still big blue fans, right? All across this great commonwealth, even in the smallest communities, we bleed blue.

There must be a change made in UK football. If the current coaching staff can not bring excitement and competitive athletes, and the athletic department can not upgrade the football facilities to create a winning atmosphere, then something is wrong, something is bad wrong.
