Redshirt freshman Cavon Butler announced via Twitter that he’s entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
A former 3-star prospect from Toledo, Butler was offered by Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, and many more but eventually signed with the Wildcats. He was recruited by Coach Vince Marrow and hails from the same high school as senior defensive tackle Phil Hoskins.
Butler was considered a Top-50 defensive lineman in the Class of 2019. He was named as the Three Rivers Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year and selected first-team All Northwest District along with being second-team All Ohio in Division I. Butler recorded 71 tackles as a high school senior including nine tackles for loss and 7.5 QB sacks.
Butler redshirted in 2019 but recorded one tackle against UT Martin. He departs a youthful yet talented defensive line group. Nose tackle appeared to be his position which already has All-SEC candidate Quinton Bohanna and Marquan McCall at the same spot. UK signed four highly-regarded defensive linemen in its Class of 2020.
