UK fifth in the nation in memorabilia sales

UK Football Fan Day

UK was fifth in the nation last year in merchandise royalties, or money made off memorabilia sales. This morning, Collegiate Licensing Company, LLC (CLC), an affiliate of IMG College, announced its annual list of top-selling institutions and manufacturers. Here’s the top ten:

1. The University of Texas at Austin
2. The University of Alabama
3. University of Notre Dame
4. The University of Michigan
5. University of Kentucky
6. Louisiana State University
7. University of Florida
8. University of Georgia
9. University of North Carolina
10. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

(The list doesn’t include Ohio State, Michigan State, the University of Southern California and Oregon, who aren’t represented by CLC.)

In case you’re curious, UofL came in at #25, an seven-spot jump from the previous year. Not surprisingly, Nike was the number one apparel licensee among college teams. #TeamDriFit

I thought Duh Ville was the most profitable sports program in the history of the NCAA.

    What a bunch of jokers.

Considering the season UK had in BB and FB last year, this is incredible. No surprise that 6 of top 10 are SEC!

I wonder wat the results would be based on population of the state/city the school is located, enrollment/alumni numbers… I bet UK shoots past Texas at number 1, 50k enrollment vs 25k, Kentucky population jus over 4.3 million vs Texas over 26 million…we may b #5 overall, but were by far and away the most passionate and dedicated fanbase, I think that goes without question..,

No way Kentucky sells more than Louisville. Every Louisville fan’s entire wardrobe is made up of UofL Adidas gear.

Ricky P, LVille’s fanbase is located entire within Jefferson Co, while UK’s stretches the entire state, half of Jefferson County, and around the country… much more
    passionate and larger fanbase.

Its amazing how UL is #25 on sales, yet they’re the most profitable sports program. How can that be? Well, just like welfare, the Ky taxpayers subsidize Tommy Turtleneck’s sweet Yum center deal and pad that bottom line. Meanwhile its going bankrupt.

6 – indeed – shows how passionate the fan base is.

10 – I would say there are probably more UK fans in Jefferson County than U of L fans – probably a lot more. Jefferson County would be the only county where a majority of fans in the state might be for U of L, and even there I would place a bet on it. Maybe at present most might claim it given the season they came off of, but I still wouldn’t bet on it.

11 – They are #25 in sales after coming off of an enormously successful year in multiple sports. Kentucky is #5. Tells you something about the passion and size of the fan bases to compare the programs. Many U of L fans still seem to talk more about our loss to Robert Morris than their national championship. Why? Because it is more relevant.

Should be I would *not* place a bet on it.
