UK Fans of the Day Want Part 2 of Drew-NCAA Trip

halloween

You asked for it, so I made it happen. Part Two of the KSTV trip to the NCAA which includes Drew’s interview with the official NCAA Spokesman is now online and ready for viewing. If you missed it last week, he talks to Drew about the Enes decision, answers the Corey Magette question (sort of) and generally puts up with our nonsense. A great performance by Drew and some high quality entertainment. I cant embed the video here but you can watch it at the link below. Enjoy:

I think it would have been better to send someone armed with a RPG rather that a spit wad straw. Lot of real tough questions that could have been asked but were not. Missed opportunity.

    Chris (Lexington, KY)

Have you seen anything like what John Calipari is doing at UK? Do you think he can continue to bring in top talent year in and year out?

    Dave Telep (2:21 PM)

Hey Chris,UK and Calipari. Wow. Three years in a row the No. 1 class. Can he keep doing that? Odds are against him to replicate that kind of success because no one has EVER done that and its not fair to mandate he go four in a row (I know you UK fans expect it though!). Cal has this in recruiting autopilot. Every year the best PG in the country looks his way; he almost has to given the success at the position. The Wildcats are a national title away from going from mega recruiting power to straight up World Recruiting Power.

I would have grilled Chuck Wynn with this question after he responded that Kanter took money from professional team. Well then why is Clemson QB playing for professional team in baseball allowed to play for the Tigers? Or Trajan Langdon gotten to retain eligibility to play college basketball at Duke when he was getting paid by professional teams? Drew great job but you missed one :-[

KEY TERM Wynn used is Kanter took money from PROFESSIONAL. I know that was the tipping point then why are professional’s allowed to keep their eligibility in NCAA sports. i.e. Baseball Players. Also I really don’t understand STILL that Selby and Sydney were allowed to pay it back because they took money from third party. MONEY is MONEY does it really matter who it comes from a third party or professional team. Discrepancy is there and they know it but NCAA is dancing around looking for any kind of loop. It’s sad that organization have to look for look in their own rulings. PATHETIC.

They keep puking the word professional. How is taking money for a service not professional? Lets take fanhood out. What is the difference in a AAU team and a pro team in turkey? Does an AAU travel and compete against players at a higher level? If you get paid you get paid. Does getting paid in Lira make it different than dolla bills yawl? Rather it be a pro organization, an aau coach,or an agent; if you are recieving money for services you are a professional!!!! If this case is so black and white, then why is there so much gray area? Can we proclaim the ncaa as a xenophobic organization? If enes were a nice kid from idaho would there have been an issue? could he have paid this money back in potatoes? last but not least enes feel free to bed my wife, she’s easy on the eyes but heavy on the ears. That i dont believe is a violation of any kind.

also.. you HAVE to lose that EZ guy on your radio show. He adds absolutely nothing and could care less about the Cats. He seems to annoy you almost as much as he annoys me with his illtimed attacks on callers, stammering when trying to make a point, and failure to comprehend half your points. Its like Brandon trying to feed Eloy… just painful to watch, and kind of sad.

pretty terrible … i bet half of the people in the comments section could have done a better job of actually bringing up more examples of college athletes in the past receiving money from professional teams or third parties and asking what the difference between each situation was … along with being able to ask what the point of an appeals process is if they were just going to go back to the same rule or bylaw without adding common sense … along with being goofy and funny during the interview if they wanted to

you got owned in this interview

hey drew… so you succeeded in your equivalent of a phone tap. Congrats for that, although it seems like an awful long drive and a waste of a good camara man’s time for what was the equivalent of a crank call. Too bad because it would have been great to hear Wynn respond to the real issues UK fans have with their stupid, hurtful decision. Matt knew the right questions to ask and and how to ask them – so you certainly could have done a lot more w/ the effort. On the other hand, he did ask you not to wear jeans and that didn’t seem to have much of an impact on you.

Awesome job drew, especially the last question. Anyone who thinks that Drew’s intention was to go get a hard hitting news story is ridiculous. This is the same Drew Franklin who sleeps on park benches and uses mini pony’s to hit on girls. Are you guys new to this site?

Drew did an EXCELLENT job and did exactly what we wanted. He went for comedy, not to be Mike Wallace and I was proud of the result. And the feedback that we have gotten has been extremely positive from all over the place. Kudos to Franklin.

To me it was all tongue in cheek type of interview. If you haven’t heard is that the NCAA has pulled it’s facebook page for the plain and simple fact there were threats “supposingly” made by UK fans on the Enes ruling. First of all the guy had his arms folded, which means he drew the short straw and was told to find out what Drew was up to. Second, Had M.Jones went up there I’m sure once Mr.Chuck and Jones started this conversation Mr. Wynn would’ve called securty to escort MATT away from the premises. I liked it because I knew in my heart that it was a half hearted attempt to make some fun of those Ignorant bastards.
Now here goes the big KaHoona, Ok the ladies coach for UCONN is recruiting an Austrailian lady WHO plays pro ball down under. Lets see if she becomes eligible, becauseeeeeeeeeee, that’s correct, she was PAID by a PRO team………GO CATS!!!!!!!!

I know this was not hard hitting journalism, but I keep hearing people throw around the word “comedy” about this clip. How? Someone explain or point out the comedy in that interview. I thought it was funny that a guy who has no business at NCAA HQ drives couple of hours to Indy and hangs out in front of the building. That was ridiculous(I’m all for that). But, once he was pulled in for an interview it just all falls apart. Next time Jones hypes something like this on his radio show again, I won’t be as enthused. Just my honest critique. I know, you didn’t ask for it. Stick to the writing Drew.

    Drew did a fine job.

Loved the Maggette jab. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that if he actually thought he would have been given a chance at a real interview that he would have prepped for it, but IIRC when they mentioned this before he went the idea was to go there, clown around and get filmed being thrown out. My hunch is the Chuck Wynne interview caught everybody off guard. I actually give kudos to Chuck for taking the time to do what he did.

This was awesome. There’s nothing like taking a random road trip to the NCAA to try to find answers and to get a laugh. I still don’t understand how guys like CJ Henry can be officially signed as a New York Yankee and play collegiate basketball. Must be the gray area in between all the black and white.

  37. zagnut
    4:05 pm January 25, 2011 Permalink

But, the thing is, Roofus, they didn’t film him getting thrown out. That was to be the “moneyshot”. It didn’t happen. Why? The interview itself didn’t need to be aired. And I see now why there wasn’t a rush to link it.

I thought that when u play in Turkey it is considered an AAU program in the US? How does the guy from Turkey that plays for West Virginia get to play when he played professionally in Turkey as well? Is there a “bylaw” for that?

  43. zagnut
    4:50 pm January 25, 2011 Permalink

    40. wasn’t suggesting that it didn’t happen. Just the act of being thrown out and filming it should have been anticipated and be the focus of the trip. No one imagined he would get to talk to anyone. I guess the NCAA fooled KSR.

I love all the negativity. In order to view KSR in the proper context you need to read the site daily, follow the writers on Twitter, listen to the radio show, and watch the TV show. When you do those things you have all the information you need to understand what’s going on. All the ass clowns that get on here and opine on how the interview should’ve been done clearly don’t understand what the original intent of the stunt was in the first place.
