In four days, a SUV load of KSRites hit the road to Canada, hoping to get detained by no border guards and to descend on the great White North with the same success as 16th Century Vikings. Hopefully many of you are going as well, and potentially we can all meet up and play a little hockey while we are there. But whether you are going or not going, you need to know about the trip, so here are a couple of details:
— All three games will be on television and radio in the Commonwealth. Tom Leach and Mike Pratt will be calling all the games for the Big Blue Network, and each major market in the state will have the games on tv on one of the major channels. For those of you that live outside the state, the games will be on Fox Sports South, but nowhere else for the far-away fan.
— KSR will be in the building and we will be LIVE BLOGGING EVERY GAME here on the site if you cannot see it elsewhere (or even if you can). So make sure and join us.
— The game times are Sunday at 7 pm, Monday at 7 pm and Tuesday at 11 am, making sure that on Tuesday, no work gets done in the Commonwealth.
— The UK roster is going to be somewhat depleted for the event. As of now, only these players will be making the trip:
Enes Kanter is as of now, not cleared by the NCAA for his amateur status and if he is not cleared this week, he will not make the trip. Plus, Terrence Jones has an ankle injury and his play could be limited. So it will be quite a chance to see some guys that we havent seen a lot of, take on important roles.
— The games are all in Windsor, and only Sunday is sold out. The games on Monday and Tuesday still have tickets available and if I were a fan who lived anywhere close to Detroit (and Kentucky is five hours or less from Detroit), I would make a jaunt up to the games. You will never see UK play in a more cozy environment.
So those are the details….it has been a GREAT trip for building UK’s young players before the season starts, as they have gotten valuable practice time and the ability to learn the offense and defense for the first time. We will see a lot of the new guys, even if the biggest mystery (the Big Enes) cannot make the trip. Its going to be a heck of a week and I hope you will stay with KSR throughout for the journal of our road trip and coverage of the event.
Finally, this entertains me and makes me laugh. If you go to the largest UL message board, you can read their site and tell a lot about the focus of the fanbase. Even though UL is set to potentially have one of their best recruiting classes in recent years, the top two posts on the site in terms of number of views, are one praising someone for keying my car and one following the Anthony Davis Jr story. In fact, its not even close…the one about my car has three times as many views as the third highest post and the Davis story is twice that of the next highest one. If you ever want an indicator of the dominating effect UK has on the state, just remember this board….posts about a UK blogger and recruit are more of a focus than the actual team/coach that the Card fans follow. The state is Blue.
