UK Fans of the Day Want an EKU Trick Play

Morehead State versus Eastern Kentucky football. The kind of game that people talk about while they are at the game (maybe). It may not on the surface seem like a game worth revisiting, but towards the end a play took place that most of us have never seen. EKU executed a Fake Punt/Pass that I have never seen before. In the play, the punter sets back and instead of punting it away, pooch kicks it to a teammate behind the line of scrimmage, who is then by rule allowed to advance the ball. It seems needlessly complicated and unnecessary, but it worked and got this video on KSR. So that is worth something. If I were the Morehead coach, I might be frustrated (a fake punt at the end of a rout seems a bit much), but I guess you could argue that there really isn’t another time to do it. Either way, it is cool to see:

That play could go south in a hurry. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.

Even the most basic photo editing software has decent red-eye removal functions these days, folks.

    Well there’s your problem…they have white-eye not red-eye

I had class with the punter, who hails from Australia and continuously talked about Australian rugby. I’m not surprise to see this play was implemented, but I agree bad time to test it out in a rout to a conference rival.

this play was designed for future opponents to see in order to keep them honest in punt coverage and keep them guessing. Eastern didn’t need it with a 20 something point lead. If somebody shows you something like this..there’s a reason. They want you to see it.

    Why not just throw it?

I am an alum of MSU and I must say this is typical. Morehead State football is to the Pioneer league as UK football is the the SEC. Actually probably worse. They lost to Pikeville College.

I want to know how that is a legal play. Because if he were to punt it normally and his teammate “catches” it down field, the ball is down there. How is this any different? Is there a special rule that I don’t know about?
