UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

A few notes from Bell County, where I am Lawdogging it today:

— Calipari was very non-committal in his press conference today about the situations of Deandre Liggins and Darnell Dodson. Dodson was said by the Coach to be “in the dog house”, and his effort during practice was specifically criticized. There however have been rumors of some other potential issue there, but Calipari did not address it and said simply that his effort in practice needed to improve. He also did not say specifically whether Dodson or Liggins would play against Sam Houston State, leaving most in the media in the situation of waiting just like the rest of the fans.

If you would like video of the Calipari presser, click here for video courtesry of Tom Leach’s site and you can see and hear all of the comments.

John Wall is expected to be back with the team today, after returning home due to a death in his family. He left after the game on Tuesday morning and I have been told that he will return today.

— Speaking of Sam Houston State, dont sleep on them. In the “Blue Ribbon Yearbook” (only the best college basketball preview book in the land), they are projected as potential winners of their conference and a team that can surprise some people this year. Will this be the third consecutive team to play zone against the Cats? We shall see.

— News from football is tough as Randall Cobb is questionable for Saturday’s game in Athens. It is a tough situation for the football coaches as Cobb is clearly beat up and everyone wants him to be healthy for the Tennessee game in two weeks. If that means sitting out this game in Athens, that might end up being the call…but it would make springing an upset nearly impossible.

— The women’s basketball team has the #5 ranked recruiting class as picked by one major women’s scouting service. That is an amazing accomplishment for Coach Matthew Mitchell, and with the team having started out 3-0, things are looking up in UK Hoops land.

— My latest column for is now up on the site and gives some advice for enjoying the season. It is under their premium content and our hope is to be able to start doing the videos within the next couple of weeks.

Lots going on this weekend, including the Sam Houston game tomorrow night. Plus, I will have some good player tidbits as part of the night post tonight. Stay tuned….
