It has been a crazy busy day here in Nashville as we get ready for tonight’s first session of the SEC Tournament. Let’s hit some notes before I catch a bus to Bridgestone Arena.

— The question on everyone’s mind right now is whether or not the Cats are in the NCAA Tournament. Joe Lunardi says that if the Cats win on Friday, he’s convinced they’re in. If not, then things are still up in the air and the Selection Committee will have a hot debate on their hands. While a win would likely get the Cats in, two wins could mean they would bypass a play-in game, the best case scenario for this squad. As Cal said, this team can still do whatever they want. Their fate is in their hands.

— Meanwhile, ESPN’S Seth Greenburg thinks the Cats should already be in. He said this during a national conference call this morning: “Kentucky played its best basketball without Nerlens Noel. Their two best wins (Florida and Missouri) came without Nerlens. They have shown the ability beat very good teams without him. When you look at the total picture, don’t you think they are deserving?”

— If you missed it this morning, John Calipari gave the BBN an update on Nerlens Noel’s ACL surgery. Cal says the surgery went well and Nerlens is doing fine. Nerlens called Cal and the team yesterday afternoon and spoke to them via speakerphone, which Cal said lifted everyone’s spirits.

— What about Nerlens’ draft prospects? Chad Ford still has him at #2 on his NBA Draft Big Board, followed by Alex Poythress at 13, Willie Cauley-Stein at 16 and Archie Goodwin at 20. Discuss amongst yourselves.

— Even Kevin Stallings knows that the Big Blue Nation will outnumber Vandy’s “hometown” crowd in Nashville: “There are going to be more people in blue than in black-and-gold. Aside from Kentucky, it’s not going to overwhelming for any fanbase.” This was followed by some sad crunching of a Doritos Cool Ranch taco.

— On your way to Nashville? Don’t forget to check out KSR’s Guide to Nashville eating and drinking. Is this a shameless plug? Yes, but I worked on those flow charts forever. Humor me.

— Tonight, Drew, Matt and I will be courtside for the Tournament’s opening games. We will post a RUNNING DIARY of the shenanigans, which will likely have very little to do with basketball. Come join us.

— On today’s radio show, Alex Risen and Lee K. Howard joined Ryan in studio to talk about the Cats’ chances in the SEC Tournament and what they must do to make the Big Dance. Listen online at talkradio1080.com.

Good for Nerlens. Like I’ve said from Day One, to have a team with four (or 3) first round NBA draft picks and be worried about a tournament spot is pitiful. Period. No excuses. I mean, even Cal agrees.

oooooohhhhh…this will be a real test. To disagree with me is to disagree with the all-powerful coach!!

Whatever is all I am gonna say. If some of these kids can go in the top 15, who provide no more effort than they do, what about a kid who gives effort. Nerlens deserves it, The rest will end up in the D league not THE league.

Yes, #1, the key phrase in your repeat post is “Like I’ve said from Day One.” Any yet you say the same thing over and over, ad infinitum! This is clearly not your team, so why don’t you put yourself (and the rest of us) out of the misery of posting the same garbage all the time?

You know, I was a successful high-level basketball coach myself for many years. Not.

#5- So given that logic, you can only defend and praise Coach Cal in you’re a successful high-level basketball coach for many years? See, that foolish argument works both ways.

I dont understand the effort arguement…..I agree that they just didnt work out the way we all thought……however anyone who question goodwins effort is not watching the game……question his decision making, shot selection, defensive ability or whatever but you cannot question his effort.
I agree early season poyhtress had an effort problem…..I also think he plays as hard as anybody now…..bet money since xmas he leads team in diving for loose balls. He is so timid now on offense b/c he gets yanked out of games so fast….he gets lost on rotation sometimes on D…..but its not lack of hustle.

Sometimes the transition from high school to college just does not happen as fast as we have seen it happen the last 4 years at UK. Poythress and Goodwin dominated high school and the speed and physicality of the college game has overwhelmed them……which will happen again at the next level……just like it did bledsoe, wall, and cousins initially.

The people on here talking about them not trying dont get it…..poythress was projected by ford as the 3rd pick in draft prior to season starting……now 13th…….he has probably lost 6-8 million dollars over his first 2+2 yr team option due to his mediocre year. Do you think he just didnt care or was just a ittle overwhlmed by the college game and the intensity of coach cal

It’s not the SEC Tournament without maconvolfan and his extremely impressive body of hair being shown to the masses.

I’d feel kind of bad for Billy Donovan if it weren’t for his waffling with us and Orlando. They have another chance for a deep run in the NCAA, and they’ll not have any more fans in Nashville than any other school. Guy got them back to back Titles, plus another final 4 run and some elite 8s, yet they don’t fill their arena for Madness (even after winning), and it’ll always be a football first program.

i think the REAL “question on everyone’s mind right now is whether or not” the Mullet Cat got screwed out of a first place finish by the KSR Dictator.

Breaking news – Chad Ford updates his ridiculous Big Board to include Alex Poythrees @ No. 13 and Archie Goodwin @ No. 20 with no substantial evidence to back up his claim. There is absolutely no way either of these players are playing to that draft position and quite frankly their potential wouldn’t indicate that either. Chad Ford smoking some crazy stuff over there at ESPN.

Strange to be talking about whether the #2 seed in the SEC tournament will make the NCAA tournament. In fact UF could end up being the only SEC team with a bye in the SEC tournament to make the NCAA tournament.
