UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes and Podcast

Good afternoon, BBN. I hope you’re enjoying your Monday. No? Don’t worry, it’s almost over. Here are some notes to get you through:

— On this morning’s SEC Coaches’ Teleconference, John Calipari said that he’s trying to keep his team “in the moment” after their win over Missouri. After Wednesday’s game against Mississippi State (who is really, really bad), the Cats hit the road for games against Arkansas and Georgia. Crucial to the team’s success? Archie Goodwin and Ryan Harrow. Cal said that the team can’t afford for Ryan to have another game where he doesn’t score: “Ryan had eight rebounds and six assists last game. And he played. You know, we got to get 10, 12, 14 points from him. We can’t have games like Tennessee and Florida where he doesn’t want to get in plays and doesn’t shoot balls.”

— Cal also said that the staff is still trying to “figure out” Archie Goodwin. While Goodwin is the hardest worker on the team–Cal says he’s in the gym every night–his tendency to be too hard on himself after making a mistake digs him into a hole. The only solution? Time. “He’s got the work habits and the drive you need to be special. Now, that mentality of playing, that feel for the game, that takes maturity and time. It just doesn’t happen in two months. It’s a lot of trial and error.”

— It sounds like Mississippi State coach Rick Ray knows how bad his team is, lamenting about roster turnover, injuries, and off-the-court issues: “The thing that we have to realize — and our team knows it — is there is nobody, there is nobody in the country that’s went through what we’ve went through.” Ray said that he’s impressed with how Cal’s changed things up offensively since losing Noel and that he’s concerned about Kyle Wiltjer’s presence in the post. He praised Wiltjer’s patience and touch around the basket…does this foretell a big game for Big Wiltj?

— After falling to LSU, UK Hoops fell to #10 in the AP poll. Matthew Mitchell’s squad will look to get back on track against Ole Miss on Thursday.

— If you purchased tickets to a UK sporting event through the Ticket Office lately, chances are you received this with your order:

Is it April 13th yet?

— Finally, enjoy Kentucky native Jennifer Lawrence’s press conference after she won the Oscar for Best Actress last night. If she weren’t a Louisville fan, she would officially be my hero.

On today’s show, Matt and Ryan recapped the Cats’ big win over Missouri, the GameDay festivities, and the “sweet” old lady that chewed me out after Friday’s radio show. Have a listen at

P.S. She was not sweet.

25 years from now, Matt Jones, the Courier-Journal, Herald-Leader and other leftists in the states will be begging her to come back ‘home’ to Kentucky so she can unseat Sen. Rand Paul. Seriously – hope she might connect with some the few sane people out there who can guide her from the pitfalls of stardom.

Lawrence went on one of the late night shows and told them she’d had a drink before coming out. Extreme nerves, I think. Adam Sandler looks like he is super nervous every time he’s on one of those shows. I guess stage fright even hits people who literally stand on stages (or in front of camera crews).

    10) Third book’s been out since 2010. Hard to avoid spoilers sometimes on stuff that’s been out that long.

Tyler, Next time Matt tries to be cute and calls you to let an angry fan scream at you I would suggest you tell them to have a Coke and a smile and to shut the F*** up. Then hang up and let Matt deal with what happens. I like Matt and love his work but how would he feel if someone called him and put an angry fan on the phone. I think that in this case Matt thought it would be funny and didn’t realize by doing it, everything just got worse.

How is it that people who disagree with hateful speech, the brow beating of women and of thinking of one’s self as “the only American in existence,” are leftists? I am sure actors such as Clint “Empty Chair” Eastwood would disagree with your generalizing about Hollywood. Old School is not nearly descriptive of such archaic thought, if thought is what it could be called.

Are you suggesting people in Hollywood speak out against hate speech? Ever heard of Dan Savage or Bill Maher? Hollywood defends women? Really – they make millions by making objects out of women and most in Hollywood support abortion which victimizes women and makes the ultimate victims of little boys and little girls. Hollywood is filled with the largest collection of money-grabbing hypocrites ever assembled.

I heard her in an interview say she was a UK fan and she liked UL too, but that was mostly because everyone in her family are diehard UL fans.
