— I thought about skipping today’s afternoon notes because, according to Cal, we don’t do crap. In last night’s press conference, he asked reporters if anyone has looked at the points per lineup from the game. “Our fans have already done it,” he said. “You guys are only media. You guys don’t do crap.”
Touché, Coach. Touché.
— Calipari also told us about one of the players joining his book club. Cal said, “He’s getting a book every two weeks that he’s got to read and tell me what’s on it because he’s messing around academically. So I said, ‘Well, good, you’re going to learn to love reading because you are going to read. You and I are reading the same books and we’re going to talk about what we’re reading.'”
And the haters say Calipari doesn’t care about academics. What other coach in America would sit down with one of his players and dissect a book — one the kid probably isn’t interested in — to get him to enjoy reading? We don’t know who the player is, but I love the thought of Calipari sitting down with Archie, Nerlens, Alex or whoever, and discussing Dale Carnegie’s ideas in “Lifetime Plan for Success.”
