UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes and Podcast

Today’s UK Fans of the Day are on a balcony overlooking Washington DC. They have a very good ‘C-A-T-S’ technique and they demanded this afternoon’s notes and podcast.

— It’s a big week for UK basketball recruiting, as Shabazz Muhammad and Nerlens Noel are scheduled to announce their decisions on Wednesday. Kentucky is the favorite for Noel but UCLA is putting up a good fight for Muhammad. If the Cats get Noel, expect a great team next season. If the Cats get both, tell everyone in college basketball to get out of Kentucky’s way.

— UK football will be struggling on the defensive end next season, especially now that seven players have left the team from that side of the ball since last season. The biggest name, Tim Patterson, was one of the top recruits out of Louisville’s Central High School and his departure, along with Ridge Wilson’s, shows Joker may have lost his recruiting edge in the city of Louisville.

— The YMCA in Maysville is very proud of a former daycare attendee:

Just saying.

Kelenna Azubuike is back in the NBA with the Dallas Mavericks, thanks to the departure of Lamar Odom. The Mavs called ‘Buike up from the D-League  just hours after the team parted ways with Odom. Azubuike was signed as a free agent on March 23 and immediately assigned to the Texas Legends. He hasn’t played in an NBA game since early in the 2009-10 season.

— Also from the league, Antoine Walker retired from basketball over the weekend. His finally game was a win over the Bakersfield Jam with the Idaho Stampede. He scored six points off the bench.

— Does anyone know why Trent Johnson left LSU for TCU? Anyone? No? Someone has to know.

— On today’s radio show, Matt discussed the big week for UK basketball recruiting and discussed which players he believes should have their jerseys hung from the rafters. Enjoy…

Interesting article here on Meyer. It’s pretty bad when a former player calls you a “bad person”…and funny how everyone calls Cal a bad person for sending guys to the pros, yet Meyer tried to kick off a player bc he was injured and I doubt we hear much about it.

TCU is apparently paying Trent Johnson a million more dollhairs.

Mister Cobble went to Central HS. It’s in Louisville. He’s going to be an anchor for the D-line this year.

Ridge Wilson was selling Xanax and got booted. Tim Patterson has never been healthy and apparently wasn’t ever going to see the field.

Just curious how those two being booted has anything to with Joker Phillips’ recruiting success in Louisville?

My record at LSU was awful the last two seasons and this coming year was nothing to look forward to. LSU would probably only tolerate two awful seasons, so if I get a fresh start at TCU that timer resets.

I’ll address the football and Trent Johnson items.

    – All 3 of those guys did not even play last season. Maybe hurts on depth a little bit, but that would be reaching. 3rd team guys there. Also, Ridge Wilson didn’t even start in the UT game…Bud Dupree did.

-As for Johnson…w/out an NCAA bid next season he was going to get canned in Baton Rouge. He can get a fresh contract and somehow people seem to forget that TCU becomes a BCS school next season….not a bad move considering the money he is getting and that TCU is committed to their athletic dept success.

Trent Johnson left for more money. It’s really, really obvious why he left. It’s literally the first question you should ask when a coach takes a new job. Did he get more money? Yes.

Please don’t mention the football program any more till atleast November. It’s bad enough we are losing our whole basketball team, you don’t have to throw salt in our wounds by making us remember that god awful abortion known as Kentucky Football.

Criterion for having your jersey hung in the rafters is just as much about the bond the fans grow with the player as it is about the numbers. In my opinion, staying here one or two years only doesn’t get it done. Should be at least a three year minimum. I cannot comment on players that I haven’t seen play, so I’ll only give my choices on who should be in during my time watching the Cats. I think Rex Chapman, Jamal Mashburn, Wayne Turner, Tony Delk, Tayshaun Prince, Keith Bogans, Patrick Patterson and Darius Miller would be my nominees with Chuck Hayes as an honorable mention. And I think our most important recruit in recent memory has hands down been Patterson. Not even close.

Trent and the AD has differences. one on the streets here is he had to make the NCAA toury next year or he was out. he let a 4 star (Gathers) get away that was right under his nose. he also never sold the program around the state, never connected with the fans (sound familiar?)
