UK Fans of the Day Want Afternoon Notes

A few notes..

 – If you missed it, DeAndre Daniels will pick a school on Thursday.  It is expected to be Kansas.  Ok, glad we got that out of the way.

 – After visiting Perry Ellis last night in Wichita, Coach Cal is again on the road today doing a little recruiting work.  He said in his Lexy message that he was “heading east”.  Andre Drummond?  DaJuan Coleman?  Laodu?  The possibilities are endless.

 – Calipari also said that things have tightened up in practice lately and that he’s demanding a lot out of the team right now.  He’s challenged them worry about getting better every day in the fundamental things that the coaches have been preaching, as well as playing with more emotion and talking more to each other on the court.  He said that he’s told them to focus on getting 5% better each day.  To give you an idea about what “demanding” means exactly, Cal said that he’s told the players that he doesn’t need their affection.  That’s what he has friends and family for.  Tough love!

 – Another interesting little bit was the acknowledgement that that vast majority of what Cal says to the media is for the players to read.  That really shouldnt’ be a surprise to anyone.  Cal then went on to compliment Lamb, Knight and Harrellson, while adding that Darius Miller needs to “bring out” what they’re seeing in spurts and DeAndre Liggins needs to improve his offensive game.  I hope they’re reading this.

– After saying he wanted a deeper rotation and then going back and saying he was prepared to play with six guys, Cal said that he hopes to “expand the minutes” on the team and that he could find one or two guys to give more playing time to.  This, of course, all goes back to guys finding a reason for Cal to keep them on the court.  For Jon Hood, that seems to be defense.  For Eloy Vargas and Stacey Poole, that is more likely just establishing a presence when they’re on the court.  In terms of Jarrod Polson, SHOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTT!!!!

– The Compass Bowl off-the-field festivities kicked off today with a breakfast featuring former Alabama running back Shiran Stacy.  Only 48 more hours until Groove Daddy!

-In case you missed Kentucky Sports Radio this morning, Matt and Intern Drew made it Ladies Day as they championed all things Women’s Lib and welcomed Kara Lawson to the show.  Check it out below.

 – Finally, Perry Ellis got all fancy for Cal and Coach O and dunked last night.  This is the photographic proof.

The kid in the photo with the PPat jersey is ugly, and he has Hartline’s arms. If I am the father, then I’m takin’ my suspicions to Maury.

I honestly think Perry Ellis is Calipari’s top priority, it seems Cal has been recruiting him since he got to UK. However, if he goes anywhere but Kansas, I would be shocked. If UK was recruitng against anyone else I would say UK wins hands down, but to try to out recruit Bill Self for a kid from Kansas? I dont like our odds on that one

    3) then we figured out that a layup counted the same points as a dunk and we actually won the game!

I think we’ll get Ellis even though he’s from Kansas. Hanging a banner in the next 2 years probably wouldn’t hurt our cause. As for Daniels, I think he’s going to Kansas, presumably because he wants to get dunked on by Gilchrist in New York City next November.

Could the 2 players Cal is talking about be Daniels and/or Kanter? Just a thought.

Daniels is only needed for this year’s team, not next. Yes, he is a great player, but we have great players already for the 3/4 postions for the 2011-2012 roster. Lacey is the only piece needed for next year, and if Knight is indeed back, Lacey too is just extra icing on the cake.

Knight-slides to point when Teague is out of the game
Jones-showing he isn’t ready for the next level just yet

Jones is gone. Also good luck not starting Liggins and Miller next season. Senior leadership will be there with those 2. But enough about last year and next year.. I think these Cats got what it takes to make it to Final Four RIGHT NOW. With the right draw anyone can win. Look at Puke last year. Got hot at right time of year.

Agree with this years team. I really like this team and the potential they possess. With the right seeding, which is difficult to get from the committee, Final Four is possible. But unless we get a #1 seed we will be in same bracket as Puke. Guarantee.

Question (And I know this doesn’t work in Kentucky’s favor, necessarily, but certainly shows a lack of consistency by the NCAA):
Follow the logic… Kanter was allowed to practice with UK in August, pending a decision. He was no longer allowed to practice, upon expiration of the time for review, until the ruling is made. A ruling was made, against him, so he was allowed to practice DURING HIS APPEAL. However, UK pulled that appeal, went back to square one, and asked to be reconsidered at the original review level.

The NCAA is completely, and utterly, incompetent. Selby $7,000 approved with 9 games; KState Players get a 30% discount, suspended with 6 games; OhioState knew what they were doing, get to play; Kanter didn’t know, is willing to pay it back, and can’t play? Selby and Kanter difference? The Amount of money? Really? Where is that set forth in the rules? The NCAA is incompetent. JMM
