Its an exciting day around the KSR Compound….so exciting that Hunter Campbell came out in public. Some tidbits….
— Patrick Patterson was on Jim Rome and did a fairly regular interview. He said he came back for his third year at UK to improve his perimeter game and repeated the oft-said line that players like Calipari because he lets them play. He also talked about Big Blue Nation and said that Kentucky was “the greatest place to be” because of how the fans treated the players. Good showing from Patrick.
— Apparently a new tanning bed tax goes into effect today. Buzz Baker admitted on a podcast that he goes, so if anyone wants to loan the man some cash, please do.
— Speaking of podcasts, the new tv gig will lead to some of them being videotaped. If that had happened during the first season of podcasts….well it would have been something else.
— The Georgia Athletic Director was arrested for DUI. Sometimes you have to be very thankful we have Mitch Barnhart.
— Really disappointing to see fans (and admittedly it is the vocal minority) take shots and turn on Dan Issel for his comments about Calipari’s NBA statement. Dan Issel has been a legend for the program and has a right to his opinion as much as anyone else (including bloggers and message board commenters). It never ceases to amaze me how fans believe they are entitled to give their opinions on any topic, but if a former player does, that somehow crosses the line. The same criticism was given to Louie Dampier, Kenny Walker and Bobby Perry when they spoke out about Billy Clyde before it was popular, and now Issel gets it as well. You can disagree with someone without vilifying them, especially when they are a former UK legend.
— Darko signed for 20 million dollars over 4 years with the Timberwolves. I should have learned to be a lanky European basketball player.
— One thing you can take to the bank….nearly EVERY athlete (including today Joe Crawford and Jeremy Jarmon in Kentucky world) has tweeted that they believe Tiger’s wife is asking for too much money in her divorce. If there ever was a unanimous opinion on something by a group of people…it is that.
— Finally, if you get a chance check out the video below that is from the CN2 website. It is my random comments on the Calipari/Issel situation. Tomorrow we are filming an interview with Mike Pratt, which should be up next week:
