The Hulkster is not only orange, he also likes to hang out with UK fans, as shown above. So watch what you say brother…
— The big news of the day is the Royce White situation as UK’s interest seems to be rising. Yesterday John Calipari confirmed that they may still add another name to the roster for 2010 and then late last night, the interest with White was reported by a Minnesota newspaper. White is a true talent and was an All-American before he committed to Minnesota. But his time at the Gophers’ campus was bizarre, and not just for the incidents at the Mall of America and on campus. I trust Calipari to make the right choice, but I admit to skepticism until we hear more. There is a lot that goes with White, and unlike what some readers have suggested, the situation isnt similar to John Wall’s. White is more of a risk than Wall, and for that matter, Demarcus Cousins. That doesnt mean you dont take that risk, but just that you recognize it indeed is one.
— ESPN picked up on our Calipari comments on the media yesterday in this article on their college basketball blog by the writer with the best name in all of college basketball media, Diamond Leung. I thought Calipari brought it with those comments and the “pumping it with smoke” quote was as strong as I have seen him say in the past.
— Patrick Patterson is likely to be invited to the NBA Draft by the league when those announcements are made tomorrow. He will join Wall and Cousins as official invites, although it isnt yet clear whether Bledsoe and Orton will be invited. We still hope to attend the Draft here at KSR, but it is not certain at this time. I do hope to get to go and see the Drake pre-party, where the artist is sure to celebrate the fact that his new CD is projected to be the highest seller of the year on its opening week.
— At the Calipari summer camp yesterday, I got a chance to see a few of the current players in action. First of all, Josh Harrellson is in significantly better shape that at any point last year. He is thinner and seems much more athletic than what we saw at the end of the season. Jorts also told me to tell KSR hello and he “liked the pictures you guys made of me on the China trip.” Beisner feel free to take a bow.
— It is a testament to how good the SEC is that Randall Cobb is listed as the #14 best player in the conference. The kid is an absolute freak on the field and the most exciting player on a given play that I can remember in years. No one is working harder this off season and I expect big things this year.
— I officially love Argentina and its crazy coach Maradona. Most exciting team in the World Cup and one has to envy Diego’s “black moustache, grey goatee” combo.
— Dick Vitale ranks Kentucky #6 in his preseason rankings. I am trying to temper expectations where I can, but the more I think about it, the more I think this team can be really good. They will lose more games than last year, but at the end of the year, they will be right there.
— A big Happy Birthday to Bryan the Intern and Joe Crawford. Combined, the two scored 1438 points and made 186 three point field goals. Both are Kentucky legends and we wish them both a Happy Birthday.
