This is the official SEC Welcoming Party being sent to convince Texas A&M to join the conference
There is some news today on a lazy June Monday, so lets get to it:
— The latest Expansion news is that the expanding isnt quite as assured as it once was. The Texas writer that seems to be on top of things reports that the Big 12 could make a public announcement that it will try to stay together as early as this afternoon. Texas seems to be leading the “we are all in this together” charge and one can look at that a couple of different ways. You could suggest that it is an attempt to salvage a conference and the Longhorns’ dream of having its own television network. Or you could see it is as a public statement made before Texas A&M says yes to the SEC, so the Longhorns wont be blamed when Baylor, Kansas, etc dont have a conference. Either way, it seems that the Aggies control the cards here and their decision will decide whether there is a Big 12 after this season.
— He used to be the Don Juan, but now his name is just ‘Toine. Antoine Walker will be sentenced on June 30 for his passing of bad checks in Vegas casinos totalling a lot of money. He could receive anywhere from probation to 12 years in prison. Walker has always been a character, but his breakdown over the past year has been sad to watch. Hopefully for him, it wont get any sadder.
— The UK basketball staff ate lunch at Shiloh’s in London, Kentucky today. I say that only because the Shiloh’s in London has produced a number of great KSR moments in the past. If you own the place and want to have us down for a podcast, write me….we like it there, especially when our writers order “Surf and Turf” in London, Kentucky.
— How did Bryan the Intern not have Jai Lucas on the Hall of Fame list? Seriously…
— I am told that from now on, one has to buy the tickets to the UK Windsor games in person. Apparently too many UK fans calling on the phones. As of this afternoon, they have stopped answering the phones at the ticket office. Hopefully that will change.
— John Calipari said today that he had a 25 minute talk with Tom Izzo about Cavs job. He didnt go into details, but on his Lexy cast, he also mentioned expansion and seemed to make a sly comment that Kansas could end up in the Mountain West. Since Kansas seems to be the major rival to UK in recruiting right now (as both schools are targeting the same players), I am sure Calipari wouldnt mind that scenario at all.
Finally, one last note. Dustin Rumbaugh and Patrick Barker will no longer be writing on KSR. Both are moving on to other things and we wish them both nothing but the best. Dustin has done a great job for us following recruiting over the last couple of years and he will be missed. Patrick came on after the Blogger contest last year and did a great job as well writing for the past season. Both guys have helped KSR grow and I wish both success in whatever they choose to do. We will be finding a basketball recruiting person in the very near future whose sole focus will be on that topic, and as the site expands its horizons this summer (more on that in the coming weeks), they will play a key role.
Stay tuned as the day goes along for any expansion notes and a potential live blog tonight if it feels right…
