Headed for the weekend, so lets get to it:
— The talk is still all conference realignment all the time. The latest team on the hot seat is Texas A&M, which may hold the Big 12’s future in its hands. Word today seems to suggest that if the Aggies dont go to the SEC, the rest of the ten remaining teams in the Big 12 will stay together, potentially add two more and fight on to live another day. But the Aggies are looking SEC, potentially with Virginia Tech. I like the addition of both schools, and think it makes sense to have a Texas team in the conference. Chances are next week is when we learn the future of all of these leagues.
— Boise State took a gig in the Mountain West Conference, becoming their 10th team. It is an interesting addition at this stage and might suggest that the Mountain West does not believe the Big 12 will end up falling apart. Either way, with Boise, TCU, Utah and BYU, the league is very good. UNLESS two of those teams join the new Big 12.
— If I were Tom Jurich at Louisville, I would call the Big 12 and try to get in the new league. The Big East is hanging by a thread and potentially falls apart if the Big Ten gets any bigger. Louisville could make it into the new Big 12 and it would vastly improve its football, without hurting its basketball. Makes sense to me.
— In case you havent heard yet, John Wall is now certain to be the #1 pick in the Draft. Evan Turner will not work out with the Wizards, meaning its all Wall all the time. Hope you have your Reebok Pumps ready.
— The final Canada schedule is done and the Cats will play three games in Windsor, Ontario from Aug 15-17. Not exactly a sexy, interesting trip, but hey its games (and more importantly, practices) in August. We will be at all three games and hope to live blog from each.
— Enes Kanter will wear #0 next year. For some reason I think that is appropriate, and awesome.
— I loved watching South Africa vs Mexico in the World Cup today. It was a great atmosphere and had a combination of things you never get anywhere else….Desmond Tutu dancing, Joe Biden in a red coat half-asleep, an ESPN announcer getting the rules wrong, a great Sports Pickle joke (where the writer said he saw Lou Dobbs in the stands wearing a South Africa jersey) and a celebration dance that will now be done by me after every positive event in my life. All along, a very good Friday morning.
The weekend will be a good one…Beez mans the site on Saturday, we will have USA-England (potentially with a KSR watch party in Lexington) and other nonsense. Plus expansion news as it happens. Stay tuned this afternoon and evening for news as it breaks.
