It has been a slow day around these parts. The Commonwealth’s attention is focused squarely on the Big Blue Madness campout, where we have Drew Franklin in attendance, hanging with the locals. Tomorrow night is Canes’ KSR Night at Big Blue Madness, which means we will be there giving away free chicken and trying to convert Perrin Johnson to the Big Blue. Until then, a few notes:
— There are recruiting tidbits all over the place, none of them firm but all interesting. You of course heard earlier about Alex Poythress supposedly being a “lock” to UK according to a Memphis “insider.” I have since been told that this “insider” is not too inside, but the conclusion is probably safe regardless. UK has been the leader for Poythress for some time and if Kentucky can get a good Big Blue Madness visit, a commitment may be soon to follow. He is my favorite player for UK in the class and if he comes, UK will have locked down, two Top 15 players.
— In the world of “didn’t we already learn this a few weeks ago but now everyone is excited again” recruiting news, Mitch McGary is coming to Midnight Madness. McGary is the wunderkid for this class and has fans of UK, Duke, UNC, Michigan, etc all hoping to win his affection. The Cats are likely a bit behind in the race, but getting him on campus to the biggest event of the year (along with Shabazz, Goodwin, Poythress, Cauley, Coleman and Warren) is a big step in potentially getting a commitment.
— The former Card commitment (which can be said about almost everyone in America now), Rodney Purvis is making a decision on Friday. Most believe he will go to NC State, although he is apparently visiting UCONN even after he makes his decision. Next to Ricardo Ledo, Purvis is the 2012 player with the most red flags in the class. We wish he and Mark Gotffried well.
— Leigh Montville and Dan Shaugnessy are on my television set at the same time. It is truly as frightening a visual as has ever been produced.
— We play LSU on Saturday. I will be watching and live blogging. I am hoping for the best. That is all.
More news all day…until then below is the Podcast in which we talked Mitch Barnhart, Alex Poythress and tipping etiquette. Enjoy:
