UK Fans of the Day Want a Couple of Late Night Thoughts

Couple of quick thoughts on an otherwise lazy Monday night:

— The most important story that has gotten little traction this evening is the news that the ACC schools have handed over their media rights to the conference. Why does that matter? Well, so long as the rights stay with the conference, it virtually eliminates a school’s ability to leave the conference, as the league would retain its media viability. According to reports, this was agreed to this weekend and goes into effect in 2014. That basically means that if the SEC is going to add two teams from the ACC (the most likely league for future expansion), it will probably have to be done in the next year, or not at all for a decade. Stay tuned.

Andrew Wiggins canceling the last three visits by head coaches due to flight delays (which were caused by the sequester…Obama and Boehner teaming up to get the Cats a recruit!) will likely have little effect on his overall decision. Chances are that these last meetings were more for the coaches than the player. But what it does showcase once again is how the chips fall well for Calipari. While the other coaches potentially miss out on their final visit, Calipari gets his by scheduling it first. As always, Calipari wins.

— Huge news today about the doubling of season ticket sales for UK football this year. I expect the first four games at Commonwealth to be sold out and the stadium to be rocking all season. It is amazing what can happen with a change of philosophy and perspective from a coaching staff.

— Everyone I speak with around the UK football program is very excited about the next 2 months or so of football recruiting. As one source told me today, the Cats are “set to go on a big run over the next few weeks.” Part of what might be taking place is a spacing out of announcements in part to create more momentum for a program that continues to have huge buzz. That buzz can be seen in part by one of the main recruiters, Vince Marrow, who Rivals.com today said has become one of the top 25 recruiters in America….and they haven’t even played one game yet.

Lots more coming in the night post tonight…until then, make sure and check out the KSR PODCAST PAGE HERE to download the latest radio shows. Plus, one of our new interns, Maria has worked diligently on creating a KSR PINTEREST PAGE. Admittedly I know very little about this, but I plan to learn. But until then check it out…she has a lot of great pictures from our past on there and some good browsing if you have time.

We end with a picture from tonight’s Catspy Awards. I think we like these guys:

How old are you Matt? Since when is 8:00 PM considered “late night”? Did you just get back from the Early Bird special at the Golden Corral?

Does that mean Maryland is staying, or that they’ll push to escape now?

Also, who would we take? Florida St always comes up, but we have Florida (can they veto?). Likewise with Georgia Tech and Georgia. Though Georgia Tech is a former SEC member. Clemson and USC. Do we try to get Virginia or Virginia Tech to help expand toward the DC market? NC State or Wake to get a North Carolina school and complete our coverage of the South? Duke and North Carolina (somehow) to make us a major basketball conference? BC so we can show the Flutie Hail Mary all the time?

It’s football and television markets, so I’d guess one of the North Carolina schools and one of the Virginia schools. NC State and Virginia Tech?

People who have Twitter might want to check out Stoops’ tweets from the last few hours, other than the one with with the above pic of him and Cal, which is balling out of effing control. For those of you who don’t Tweet he says something called “Operation Wildcat Storm” has proven fruitful for his staff and insinuates, if not outright says, it’s going to be a fun week.

I think Virginia Tech would be able to hold their own in the SEC. I think Clemson would be a positive addition as well.

Matt said on his show today the UK was going to “kill” Western Kentucky. With all due respect to Matt, I think he knows less about football than he does basketball. Western only lost 6 starters from last years team and has plenty of other talent who saw significant action last year. Plus it has Bobby Petrino. He never has lost to UK and was passed over for coach Stoops when the football job was open. I’m afraid Petrino will want to make a statement when they play in Nashville.

Just another reason to hate Bill Curry! He got forced into playing Ghetto Scum and caved into Smellburger and if it was not for that, they would not hardly have a sports program. THe beginning of us playing them in football has put them where they are today. Go get 2 schools now and DESTROY this conference! Please let 2013 be over I am so sick of everything turning up roses for that Trash! THat city and people don’t deserve it, it’s the worst place on the planet.

the ACC press release says the deal goes into effect immedately so therefore the SEC won’t be taking any of them. Wasn’t hard to find that info just googled the press release. Maybe if we stuck with facts and stopped the UL news things like this wouldn’t happen. Makes me sick how many articles on UL there are.

#6 This should end any expansion. The SEC does not want FSU, Ga Tech, or Clemson. NC State, Wake, and BC wouldn’t be good fits. UNC/Duke, Va, or Va Tech would have been nice to have in our conference. 16 teams with a NCSt.and Va tech joining wouldn’t help UK. You will have someone like Stalling calling for 22 conference basketball games if the league expands to 16 teams.
