University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

UK Fans of the Day in Afghanistan Want Afternoon Notes and Podcast

Major David James, Major Glen Wright, Captain Kiel Wright, Specialist Truman Claytor (son of UK guard from the 1978 title team) and Sergeant Candice Funchess are all lifelong UK fans, and they have asked for today’s afternoon notes and podcast. There’s a lot, so let’s run through it.

— The Kentucky Basketball Tip-off Luncheon was held in Louisville earlier today, featuring our own Matt Jones as emcee. The One-Million Dollar Question: Did Matt behave behind the microphone this year? According to Jerry Tipton, he did not.

It’s the most ridiculous manner possible.

— Of course, Calipari was the star of the show. He talked about his expectations for the 2012-13 season and even showed some love for that other team in the state. “They have a good program,” he said of the Cards. “There is no disrespect. Rick Pitino is a great coach. Don’t root against them.”

He added, “They’re picking us third? What? I don’t even know how we’re going to play.”

Oh, Cal.

— In case you missed it this morning, Nerlens Noel made SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays today for his dunk over Stone Cold Willow at the Big Blue Madness campout. That’s now two years in a row that Tent City has made SportsCenter’s Top 10.

— Nerlens is also in the news today after Adam Zagoria released a report saying the star freshman is still under investigation by the NCAA. Noel has been cleared to play academically, but his amateur status is in question. The NCAA is looking into how Noel paid for some of his unofficial visits before he committed to UK.

James Young will announce his college decision Thursday on ESPNU during the 5:00 ET recruiting special. Kentucky is in great shape to land the commitment, considering its the only school Young has visited. There have also been reports of the Harrison twins calling Young after they committed last week, asking him to join them in Lexington.

— Calipari told tip-off luncheon attendees that Anthony Davis finished last year with a 3.87 GPA. Bob Knight was not available for comment.

Day 3 of the Big Blue Madness ticket giveaway was a success. Have a listen as a lucky listener wins two tickets and Matt and the gang discuss all things UK.

Would it be totally unappropriate to ensure that every Tipton photo displayed on this site has a penis protruding from his pie hole?

I love Cal. But he will never convince me to not hate the Cards.

Could a heavy bag with Jerry Tipton’s face on it sell well in Kentucky? Seriously, get one, follow Tipton on twitter, and 3 months later be at 6% body fat.

Firstly, many thanks to our brothers and sisters overseas laying their lives on the line for our country – no matter WHAT team they cheer for, but ESPECIALLY the Cat fans!

Secondly – #8, who do you think would have the higher GPA, Jones or Chane Behanan (he doesn’t even know how to spell “Shane” correctly)? Point blank. Seriously.

#9, I would probably get a better workout with the Pete Thameltoe version. I bet Cal could whip himself into shape with the Marc Emmert version!

Duke- $100,000 in Improper Benefits with Legal Documentation- NCAA does nothing (so far)

UNC- System wide documented Academic Scandal at the University involving dozens of athletes and multiple basketball players taking fake classes, fake grades, fake professor signatures, multiple investigations- NCAA does nothing (so far)

14 – What bugs me is if the NCAA does find improper benfits for Nerlens, UK will be punished for money he received to pay for an unofficial visit to ANOTHER SCHOOL! If somebody paid his airfare to Georgetown, we lose him for however long the NCAA thinks is appropriate. I really doubt Cal or a UK Booster would fund his trip to a rival school. Ridiculous.

While KSR may be reporting it as a $1 million question, I had it around $17,348.

If they punish Noel shouldn’t they punish the school he travelled to also? NCAA is sooooo inconsistent with the punishments. Guess what? If U didn’t catch Cal before he came to UK doing anything, your def not gonna find anything now. Man doesn’t have to cheat now (if he ever did)

pitino jokes will ALWAYS be funny. Keep throw’n ’em Matt.

I haven’t looked (and won’t) to see tipton’s take on joker. Could anyone enlighten me – just for fun.

Something will happen with the ncaa. Member institutions can not and will not allow the ncaa to look the other way on duke and unc. Too many schools (UK included) get penalized for bogus stuff (recruits unofficial visits) while tobacco road basically gets away with murder (widespread academic fraud and 100k worth of impermissible benefits).

Is it me or does Jerry sound like he’s speaking in code? Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. Or maybe ole “negative J” just got a little sauced up at the luncheon, that would explain it.

    P.S. – he doesn’t sound bitter at all….
