DeMarcus Cousins scored 40 points in the Big Blue All-Stars 125-104 win over Union College last night. See if you can find him hidden in the crowd in that photo.
— Jerry Tipton is at it again. This time, he managed to put a negative spin on Coach Cal’s basketball tip-off luncheon in Louisville. Tipton titled a blog post, “Cal Puts Draft Picks Over A National Title”, which is completely untrue. Coach Cal wants to win a national title, obviously. He said he would be disappointed if no one was drafted if that happens. Tipton also made a point to say the crowd was silent after Coach Cal said that. Of course they were! The man was giving a speech at a luncheon. The crowd was silent the whole time! They were silent during the prayer too. Does that mean the crowd doesn’t agree with what the pastor was thanking the Lord for? This guy is ridiculous. It’s a shame he is still invited to anything UK basketball related. People are going to read the Herald-Leader — well, maybe, but for the sake of this argument let’s say they do — and think Calipari was preaching draft picks over a title and received a negative reaction from the crowd. The crowd was eating mashed potatoes and listening to a speech! Write that. If Tipton wants negativity, he should write about those mashed potatoes. They were awful. The nerve on this guy.
— Give me a second to calm down.
— Okay, we’re good.
— 6-foot-8 JUCO prospect Orlando Sanchez named Kentucky on his final list of schools. Sanchez is also considering UMass, Providence, LSU, Rhode Island, Florida International, and Baylor. You may recognize Orlando Sanchez as one of the players on Coach Cal’s Dominican Republic team over the summer. He had a breakout game in Rupp Arena for the Dominicans, scoring 13 points in 29 minutes in his first international competition.
— 2 days, 4 hours, and 30 minutes until Big Blue Madness. I’m giving away two tickets on Twitter because I love you. All of you.
— In football news… wait… where are you going? This is important. In football news, Joker was very pleased with today’s practice. “I think we got better today, especially with our effort and enthusiasm,” he said. “We had a lot of competitive drills that we did today and scrimmaged on kick and punt returns. We got a chance to look at some new guys there.” The team will scrimmage tomorrow, mostly for the younger guys and inexperienced players.
— South Carolina dismissed Stephen Garcia because of a failed drug test, but there is a ridiculous rumor floating around that Stephen Garcia was shaving points before he was replaced by Connor Shaw. Get out of here with that nonsense. He just sucked.
— Today’s radio show was a warmup before Matt’s big performance as the host of the basketball luncheon. Take a listen…
