UK fans might be angry, but at least we show up to our home games

This picture was taken by ESPN’s Rob Stone 14 MINUTES before kickoff of last night’s UL-Murray State game.  You can see the band on the left side of the picture playing the national anthem.  Remember that UL was the first game in the nation for college football.  Remember that this is fanbase that claims they are so excited about the Charlie Strong era.  Remember this is the program that built onto their stadium because they had so many fans that wanted to see the games.  Remember this is the program that just won a bowl game and brought in a highly touted recruiting class.  I would estimate there are MAYBE 1,000 people in this picture.

I will be interested to see what Commonwealth looks like next Saturday against Central Michigan, but I would love somebody to take a picture of the stadium 14 minutes before kickoff and send it to me ([email protected]) so we can compare the two fanbases.

By god, start talking about winning SEC games and eff this L crap. We’ve built teams that can beat them, SEC is what the goal should be. You idiots can’t figure out that by beating SEC teams the L thing takes care of itself. And 10, UK is my team and they’re not worh a bucket of cold piss. Set your friggin goals higher than the L.

I understand taking the picture early for the dramatic effect and such, but people could have filed in for this game…i want to see a picture when it starts or maybe halfway through the first quater…it would be way more incriminating..

When looking at this picture and hearing accounts of how many fans were at the game lets not forget how many tickets UofL sold to youth football teams around town. I know in my league our kids were able to order as many tickets as they wanted for $5 a piece. $5 tickets to your first homegame and still no sellout=a big L no!

Its almost comical. Fans of two BAD TEAMS (who both looked horrible in their first game) talking about each others teams. Why can’t you just say we both sucked last night and move on? It is what it is… You’ll get your chance to find out who sucks loudest in a couple weeks.

First off why do we care about UL’s attendance?? I’m more concerned with our WR’s ability to catch the ball. However I’ll defend the filthy cards aganist this ksr picture. I went to the game with my boss (a UL fan) and it took us 1 1/2 hours to get to the game from East End. We left office at 4:50 and didn’t get to our seats until 6:20. I don’t know what the heck was going on with those stupid traffic cops….unbelivable. I was pissed to be sitting in that hot traffic the whole time but also laughing at all the thousands of UL fans in the traffic too. I don’t know what they would schedule a 6:00 game on a weeknight…oh well it was fun hearing them gripe

I can’t stand the filthy Cards, but this is not really a meaningful observation. Was an early start time on a work day. Also, given the 100 degree heat, folks likely waited until the last minute to come in from tailgating. Problem is, PJCS has poor people flow so it can take 20+ minutes to get to your seats. Despite all that, they still outdrew our game (was that mess a game?) by 20,000, so I don’t think we have a reason to throw stones.

In defense of our LOUISVILLE Football fan base, we expend exhorbitant energy and time socializing/tailgaiting before halftime ends. At which point, we transition – flash mob. Typically, we fill the Pizza by the middle of the 3rd quarter, and are at capacity. Unless it is an academic foregone conclusion the Fat Lady is singing, at which point we – commence to de-flash mob – and return to our tailgate positions and continue State supported urban U party. You see Matt, this is how we roll, national T.V. or not.

i was at this game. this is about right….14 minutes before kickoff. at kickoff….the stadium was 3/4 full. maybe not all in their seats since PJCS has the norton healthcare terrace where you can stand and watch the game from.

not to mention the game was at 6pm on a thursday before labor day weekend.

    But Petrino?

You cannot believe any attendance figure put out by UofL. If no one shows up they use paid/give away tickets as their count. If they are trying to fire a coach they go by actual attendance. I would guess they had 39k but upped the total. Hey they are offering every employee of Louisville Corporations $10 per game tickets.

Last I checked the dirty birds were favored by 30 over MSU (that 1AA powerhouse) and the cats were down to 16 by game time against a fbs opponent with the #3 running back in the country last season in an away game with 2 starting OL on the bench including your center. Both teams were poor but you gotta come closer to covering at home right? Next week will be a much better indicator.

Morgan looked much improved on the deep ball. The D was much tougher than you think if you know what to look for considering they were on the field for 20 more snaps. Hell our punt team/kicking game killed it.

Better to get this out of the way now.

If you were in the Louisville area you would know traffic in the city was atrocious starting two hours before kickoff. And, going to UL I learned this, that the fans are notorious (worse than UK fans) about getting to their seats by kickoff. And I agree with other posters. While I am not jumping ship quite yet about this season, this really shouldn’t be something we are talking about. I think the season will get better for UK (compared to Thursday), but a bowl game is now looking iffy.

Bill Curry era returned? Rich Brooks had no better a winning percentage in the SEC than did Curry. The Barnhart-Brooks era was all smoke and mirrors built on an expanded four-game non-conference schedule against a bunch of patsies. The smoke is about to clear.

Part of the reason the stands didn’t fill up earlier is because the game started DURING rush hour. Game traffic combined with normal afterwork traffic caused a stand still on 65. But as many have said, UofL had 46,000 people there despite a 97 degree temp at kick off. Question: If UK has this much trouble against a team that won 2 games since September of 2008, how do they expect to win an SEC game?
