It is unfathomably hot right now and one cant help but feel bad for the boys wearing pads on the football field today. God speed guys. Some mostly basketball news…
— Today is the final day of basketball practice before the Cats leave for Canada and Calipari was full of news this morning. He sent out a “Lexy” that he may start as many as three Freshmen, which probably means that at this point, he is preparing for Deandre Liggins to be a starter next season. The likely lineup if three start is Brandon Knight, Deandre Liggins, Darius Miller, Terrence Jones and Enes Kanter and from what I saw at the two practices I attended, those would be the guys who deserve those spots at this time.
— Yesterday, the Cats were joined in practice by Nazr Mohammed, who matched up with Enes Kanter during a bit of the time. I am told that in pickup games and in practice, Nazr and Enes had quite a battle, with Kanter holding his own against the NBA big man. This has been said, but should not be forgotten….Enes is going to be good.
— Great story out of New Jersey about Mike Gilchrist and his inspiration from his father. From all indications, the future Cat is a GREAT kid and this article showcases just how much the fans are going to love him when he arrives in Lexington.
— In other UK recruiting news, two guys who at one time seemed likely UK targets, now have both made statements that would suggest otherwise. Johnny O Bryant gave his list yesterday and it didnt include Kentucky. The Cats were the main team off of his final five (or eight depending on the source). O Bryant is a kid who has seen his stock fall slightly, but is still a top 40 type player. Also Quincy Miller said that he was taken out of context when he was said to be a UL lean, but worried about Rick Pitino not sending players to the pros. Miller says he is not a UL lean and he isnt worried about Pitino either, which means that the original story was either totally wrong or someone is doing some major backtracking.
Chane Behanan is on campus and we are 48 hours from the official KSR minivan rolling out of Lexington/Louisville for Canada. These are exciting times….
