I have to admit that I didn’t know “Big Brother” was still on the air. I haven’t seen the show since a few years ago when Showtime would run a “Big Brother After Dark” show that was essentially just a live camera on the house. That season focused on two people in the house that were a couple and I would find myself watching the show as I fell asleep at night. I realized at that point that what I was doing could be the low point of civilization…literally watching others live their lives LIVE, rather than actually living a life. I vowed to never do it again.
But maybe now I will have to change my mind. One of this season’s cast members, Joe Arvin is supporting the Cats on a nearly daily basis on “Big Brother.” The Lexington native has taken to wearing UK shirts nearly every day around the house and when he rocks the Blue and White, he does it right. A few snapshots of his Blue attire on CBS:
His decision to wear Kentucky blue during nearly every waking moment reflects the overall tendency of Kentucky fans to wear Kentucky gear in virtually any location. We as the Big Blue Nation wear Kentucky shirts to any setting, no matter how formal, nor how inappropriate. And as such, the Kentucky shirts (which interestingly enough can be purchased at TheKSRShop.com at any point), become a part of our very nature. Joe however isn’t just a Blue shirt, he also is a chef and a family man, as showcased in his Big Brother bio:
Name: Joe Arvin
Hometown: Lexington, Ky. (living in Schererville, Ind.)
Three adjectives that describe you: Leader, performer and entertainer.
Favorite Activities: Watching my kids play sports, compete and see them have that drive to win.
Most difficult part about living inside the Big Brother house: It will be hard to have everyday, every minute, every second of my life on the air. I think at times I will want to crawl into a hole and hide.
Strategy for winning “Big Brother:” I plan to use my cooking skills to help get me to the end. Every one loves to eat, never get rid of the cook!
Which past Big Brother cast member did you like most or least: My favorites were Chicken George, because he was able to move around undetected for much of the time, and Will, who won by acting like he was crazy. Come on that’s talent.
What are you afraid of: I am not a big fan of being alone. I love to have people around me at all times. It comforts me. It makes me happy. I would also say heights. I get upset and dizzy.
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of: Never giving up, my will to win and being a mentor to my kids.
Finish this sentence: My life’s motto is… Inspire, dream, cook. That’s how you become GREAT!
What would you take into the house and why: A football to remind me everyday that it’s a game and I will win. A cookbook since I’m always studying my art and a family photo because I never forget where I come from and who I am fighting for.
Now I freely admit to having never seen the show, but besides the unnecessary soul patch for a 41 year old, Joe seems like a good guy. And as long as he is wearing the Blue and White, I will root him on. Plus, if Joe is wearing Blue and White, he isn’t dressed in the Affliction/Ed Hardy/”We likes to party” t-shirt that he is wearing below. And the entire Big Blue Nation can certainly support that:
