— There’s no doubt that Calipari respects his competition in the SEC. He believes the conference is so strong this year, that he predicts four of the SEC’s top five teams this year will make the Sweet Sixteen. That’s an interesting pick. I don’t think I’ll go with that in my bracket.
— Calipari also has a lot of confidence in the Vanderbilt Commodores. Cal said if Vandy plays like they did against Auburn, they’ll beat Kentucky by 20-25 points. Vandy held Auburn to just 35 points in Saturday’s 30-point home win, while shooting 45% from beyond the arc as a team. UK goes into Vandy’s awkward gym on February 11 for the ESPN College Gameday.
— Don’t worry if UK does happen to drop a couple games in league play. “If we lose a couple, we lose a couple. It’s not college football,” Cal told reporters today. “We can’t lose the national championship in January,”
— The Derby Festival Classic is moving back to Freedom Hall, after two years in the KFC Yum! Center. Event organizers say the NCAA rule that ruined the “Rumble In Rupp” event is the reason behind the move. My belief is that the Yum! Center is tired of Kentucky fans filling the Louisville arena to watch future Kentucky players dominate the competition. This year’s classic will be held on April 22nd. Tickets go on sale January 18th.
