UConn thrashes Kentucky in Maui final, 84-67

Early on, it looked like Kentucky and UConn were set for a battle to the end.  The Huskies attacked the Cats in the way we all expected Washington would and John Calipari’s team fought hard early, highlighted by a ferocious Terrence Jones dunk over two Husky big men.  But, when Jones was hit with his second foul, UConn closed the half on a 21-2 run to take a 50-29 halftime lead and the game was all but over for the Cats.  Connecticut point guard Kemba Walker, who was named tournament MVP, finished with 29 points and 6 assists against a team that looked overmatched and unable to find any answers.  For Kentucky, Terrence Jones finished with  24 points, but left his teammates unsuccessfully looking for someone else to step up and take charge when he was on the bench.  The player who should fill that void, Brandon Knight, finished a rough tournament with 6 points on  3-16 shooting and committed 4 turnovers, running his tournament total to 17.  Not a good way to finish the trip, but maybe the game this team needed to finally be aware of their weaknesses.
