UConn favored by 13.5 points tonight

Your University of Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team is currently a 13.5-point underdog to UConn in tonight’s Elite 8 matchup. It was Geno Auriemma’s squad that knocked Kentucky from the tournament last season in this game, 80-65, to earn a trip to the Final Four. Tonight, Kentucky will seek revenge for that game and the school’s first ever Final Four appearance.

“It is really, really exciting to have a chance to go to the Final Four,” Matthew Mitchell said of the opportunity ahead. “I think the opponent in the NCAA Tournament for us has been for us to try and play our best. That’s who we’ve been trying to measure it against, and now our opponent is outstanding and excellent. You should be playing somebody like that to go to the Final Four. I think anybody we would play in this round was going to be really good, have our respect. Connecticut certainly has our respect. We think they are a terrific team. I think the focus still needs to remain on us and we need to try and play our very best tomorrow, give our very best effort, and that’s what we’ve tried to do through this tournament.”

The game is at 7:30 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN. Join us here on KSR for a live blog of the game from courtside.

Go UK Hoops.

    That’s a huge point differential between a 1 and 2 seed.

No respect for the Cats. That early season bad, bad loss to Baylor set the expectations. Lady Cards beating Baylor last night didn’t help perception of Cats. Also very unlikely that the top 2 teams in the country lose. I think we are still a player or 2 short of breaking thru to the big time.

    @ #4…

You are going to find out why tonight.

@ #7 – I wouldn’t say you are player or two short of breaking through to the big time. UK has recruited fairly well the past few years. The difference in womens basketball is the top 4-5 recruits are typically much better than even the 10th best player in the class. By much better I mean they can take over and dominate the game in a way that no other player can. These are the players like Elena Della Donne, Stefanie Dolson, Britney Griner, Skylar Diggins, Mosqueda-Lewis, Maya Moore, Candace Parker, or Mercedes Russell who is going to Tennessee next year. The closest UK has to that is Mathies but even she is too inconsistent compared to the bigger names. Although as Griner showed last night, even these players are not flawless. They have to show up and have their head in the game.

Even though the women’s team will probably lose tonight they could still put a whooping on UK’s Mens Team.

When the hell are they going to fix this rigged system that has the favorites playing in their own back yard for THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT? I always used to complain about Duke and UNC’s men’s teams playing in their state lines for their first round games, but this is ridiculous!

7 (Sammydog) – I just thought I would point out that our ladies BEAT the UL women at the Yum bucket earlier this year.
9 (Vegas Knows) – We have a top 5 recruit coming in next year in Linnae Harper.

    9. I would hardly use last nights game as an example. Britney was mugged for most of the night. There was one trip down floor that a ul player could have fouled out in 30 seconds if they were calling fouls.
