Tyson Gay Tests Positive For Banned Substance

Former Lafayette High School track star and 4-time American champion sprinter Tyson Gay announced that he is dropping out of the World Championships in Moscow, Russia next month after testing positive for a banned substance on May 16th, according to the Associated Press.

Gay isn’t revealing the substance, but he says he was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency on Friday that a sample came back positive from an out-of-competition test May 16. He says he will have his “B” sample tested soon.

The 30-year-old Gay fought back sobs in a phone conversation Sunday from Amsterdam, saying: “I don’t have a sabotage story. … I basically put my trust in someone and was let down.”

A sad, sad story for the American record holder in the 100m dash at 9.69 seconds.

Damnit…..this one really hurts me. Knowing Tyson, this may have truly been a mistake. No excuses for not researching EVERYTHING that goes into your body though…..

Don’t believe the lies. This is one of those classic “I did not know what I was taking” excuses that someone says when they are caught juicing when the whole world knows that world class sprinters are on as much stuff as Ben Johnson. The next excuse will either be “it was a tainted “supplement” that his trainer gave to him. When they get caught juicing, they have to try to cover it up to remain in the sport or else they’re finished.

I glanced at the headline, saw “Gay” and “tests positive”, and immediately thought “A.I.D.S.” Apparently my brain woke up in the 90s this morning.

@ #9….Yes, I’m well aware of the history of A.I.D.S. ; I referenced the 90s, because that was the height of ignorance and mania concerning the disease. But thanks for the lame attempt at educating me…

“I basically put my trust in someone and was let down.” I hate when someone can’t accept the fault for their own problems.

Quite a legacy for Tyson. Probation for Arkansas in his recruiting and now failed drug test.

Everyone dopes!!!! Come on people, stop acting like this a surprise. Do you really think nutrition and overall healthiness is the reason we smash records every olympics? The trainers and athletes are just one step ahead of the testers…..
